Joe Chisholm Unethical Breeder Of Golden Retrievers Dishonest, terrible conditions for puppies. This man runs a Puppy Mill! Concord California
I purchased a male puppy from Joe Chisholm for $800.00 in 2007 that I intented to use as a stud for my female. I was told the puppy was vet checked and healthy and that the parents were OFA certified which were both lies. When I brought the puppy home he had a severe case of Kennel Cough which is very contagious and my other dogs contacted it. It cost me $230.00 just to get my puppy healthy and take care of my other dogs.
Had the puppy actually been vet checked it would have been disclosed that he only had one t******e, which is hereditary. This being the case I am not able to use him as a stud. I had to have him neutered at age 7 months and due to the one t******e that hadn't dropped the vet had to locate it which cost me another $462.77
The conditions where the puppies were held were filthy. There was old engines and oil, cigarette butts, feces and urine everywhere. I felt so sorry for the puppy that I had chosen that I couldn't wait to get him out of there to a cleaner safer invironment.
When Joe finally arrived for our scheduled appointment, I waited for an hour, I asked if I could see the parents and Joe told me they lived in another location and belonged to friends of his. He told me he did all the selling of the puppies for these people. I asked if I could see pictures or paperwork and he said he didn't have any at that time but he could get them and send them to me through the mail. I never received any paperwork or pictures.
I take full responsibility for being naive and believing his lies. I should have demanded to see the parents and the OFA certificates. After seeing the conditions that these puppies were living in I should not have purchaed one but I felt so sorry for him at the time I just wanted to get him the hell out of there.
Anyone looking for a Golden Retriever puppy, BEWARE OF JOE CHISHOLM!! He will say and do anything to get a sale.

In 2001, I bought my first dog, Corey who is now 12 years old. Corey has been my best friend and I have always wanted a golden retriever. Corey was healthy but he has always had stomach issues. He was so smart but I did encounter a dog from same litter that had thousands of dollars of hip dysplasia surgeries. I thought it was odd as I was going to get a female and he re-directed me to my current dog, which I am of course happy about as I have an amazing bond with Corey. Last year he had major abdominal surgery at Sage in Concord for a liver mass. He is fine and has been better since having 2 cavaliers as his new siblings however he was extremeley jealous and I had to get a dog behaviorist. He is sometimes very protective esp with me.
I would never trade Corey for the world as I love him more than anything but I have done work with the Golden Retriever Rescue and I have heard many not so good things about this breeder. Fortunately, I have done tons of research as I have gotten older and gotten tons of referrences before buying a dog from any breeder and I bought both my other 2 dogs on Puppyfind.com but have done my research and also contacted references and the veterinarians before buying any dog from a breeder.
