received the following email after placing an ad with autotrader.com
these crooks called from 646-536-9090 first to using a different name..... when i asked to many questions they just hung up on me. it was a lady who called. next i recieved an email like a car dealership representing a client. i thought it odd they did not want to see the car first or ask any questions about it.
after digging i found several fraud alerts on another website for vehicle says. i found this because they were using the same phone number and that is how i found my way here. i did a search on the phone number above and found others on rip-off report.com have had experiences with these same people.
they seem to comb the vehicle sales sites, not just autos but motorcycles too. they are looking to steal you vehicle and gain access to you money by gaining your account info for a wire transfer or by sending a fradulent check and then have you pay them some of it back..... meanwhile you pay for that if the check is bad. there are very schrewd people. by the looks of it these criminals are from somewhere else, the spelling and grammar is very crude. BEWARE.

THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONCE TO MY LAST MAIL TO YOU
CONCERNING YOUR CAR.ALL THE PICS AT THE AD HAVE BEEN
VIEWED WELL BY MY CLIENT AND HE HAS FINALLY ACCEPTED
YOUR PRICE, AND HE IS IMPRESSED ABOUT THE EXPLANATION
YOU MADE ABOUT THE CAR.HE HOPES THE ENGINE IS SERVICED
AND OIL CHANGED TOO.
HE CANT WAIT TO SEE THE CAR PARKED IN HIS GARAGE.
HOWEVER,MY CLIENT HAS INSTRUCTED ME TO CARRY ON WITH THIS
TRANSACTION.SO YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE YOUR FULL NAME,
ADDRESS,PHONE NUMBER AND ACCOUNT INFORMATION SO THAT HIS
BANKER WILL WIRE THE FUNDS TO YOUR ACCOUNT IMMIDIATELY
TO ENABLE US WRAP UP THIS TRANSACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
ONCE THE TRANSACTION IS CONCLUDED, MY AGENT WILL BE COMMING
FOR PICK UP OF THE CAR FROM ITS PRESENT LOCATION,ON AN OPEN
VEHICLE AND THEN DRIVE TO A PRE PAID SHIPPER FOR SHIPMENT,
AND ALSO CONCLUDE OTHER NECCESSARY SHIPPING ARRENGEMENT.
SO YOU DONT HAVE TO BOTHER YOUR SELF ABOUT THE PICK UP AND
SHIPPING ARRENGEMENT.I WILL NOTIFY YOU ONCE THE FUND IS WIRED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND CANDID COPERATION.
GOD BLESS YOU,HAVE A NICE DAY.
JOE.

They don't care about your car

They are after your bank account. I get two or three of these offers a year, claiming to be agents and stuff. I don't know if the authorities are even interested in tracking them down, just don't fall for it. Also watch out for their offer to send you a cashier's check to cover shipping expenses or some other bull. It is a high quality forgery.
