Joe Young, Joseph Young Attorney Whittier California SCAMMER,LIAR,CHEATER whittier California
I am so disgusted with Joe Young and his scam law office. I signed an agreement and gave him $3500 for what he said was a slam dunk case for labor law. He stated he does not take cases he can not win. $3500 is like a million to me. It was my entire savings. He promised he would personally handle my case and it would be finalized in 90 days or less. This was 11/12. Once he had my money I never heard from him again until about 3 weeks ago when he wanted another $4500. In the mean time there was supposedly a Marissa working on my file. I could never reach her, did not know her last name. I asked the receptionist if she even worked there or was a real person. She laughed and said she certainly was. Well, this went on for months. They had all of my documents to finish this up the first week. Finally I was contacted by Meghan. my new attorney from his office. She actually was good and did some work. We were ready for arbitration when all this blew up.
I received an email this week that his office was closing. I finally got ahold of one of the staff there. He said the doors were chained by the landlord for nonpayment of rent, the staff had not been paid for 6 weeks, the financial person was nowhere to be found and trust accounts are empty. He stated Joe was in the hospital and would not be able to continue his practice. He also told me there was never a Marissa in the office.
I found this firm on Handel on the Law. One would think these attorneys would have been properly vetted and checked on continuously. I emailed Bill Handel after hearing him state he would personally handle any issues with the attorneys for you. My first email was a month ago. No answer. I emailed again after receivig the office closing email. Clear Channel and an Account Exec from Handel on the Law responded right away saying he would be back in business and was in the hospital getting well. I seriously doubt this, I think it is part of the scam, and Young is hiding out from the whole blow up. Bill, stand by your site and write me a check from your Persian Palace to cover my losses.
What happened to the money? This all was happening long before he ended up in the hospital. So, now I have a case ready to arbitrate, no attorney, no money....Thanks Joe, I hope you can live with yourself for all the pain and devastation you have caused so many people. People with morals like him don't care...

I'm responding to this report as it is the latest about JoeYoungLaw. Joe young is disbarred now and can no longer practice law anywhere. You can Google his name and find out why, the best resource for this is the California State Bar website. He's Bar #248795, and has been disbarred since November, 2015. You can read the reports; it appears he was convicted of arson.
I retained Young to handle a labor complaint of mine. Not only did Young not regain my job for me, he quit and sent me a drop letter in 2009. Won't go into details, but he refused to refund any unused portion of my $3,500 retainer. I took Young to a State Bar Fee Arbitration hearing in Woodland Hills in 2010 and won a refund of $850. But...
The hearing was in the law offices of the volunteer arbitrator. I was seated across from his desk with the exit door on my left and Young on my right, with the arbitrator seated on the other side of the room. After a half-hour or so I noticed Young packing his papers back into his briefcase. Remember these hearings are made under oath; we had to swear in like we were in a courtroom. Suddenly Young sprang from his chair and blasted past me and dashed down the office hallway. The hearing officer immediately jumped from his seat and chased after Young, catching him before he could make good his escape. I could hear them tussleing in the hallway, the judge saying things like "Get back in there!" and Young something like "No! No!" But he reentered the office and remained for another half-hour, maybe before leaving again.
These hearings are voluntary and neither party is forced to be there. We both could have left when we wanted to. But I imagine we would be expected to announce our intent before leaving, rather than dashing pall mall like a criminal. Which Young was later convicted of being, actually.
But the reason for this statement is that, even with Young's actions, he escaped censure by the Bar in the disciplinary part of the complaint. He lost the Fee Arbitration, but went unpunished in the Discipline. Rarely is an attorney chastened by the Bar when the complaining party is a private citizen, and even when the attorney is later found to be as incompetent as Young was. This in itself is another crime.
I won't even mention Young's newly-hired office workers at the time, like Christie Cole and the unnamed new office employees. In retrospect they certainly did not help Young's business out at all, nor did they keep him from his wayward path. But he's gone now, and he'll never ruin another client's life or bank account other than by further criminal activity that'll probably remain unreported to the public.
