The Mattice family had a business called  Energy Management Systems (EMS). I had a company that was working with EMS and John H. Mattice approached me and asked if I would loan him some money for EMS. I felt I could trust him, so I decided to loan him the money. We executed a loan agreement and I gave him the funds. Over the course of a number of months John always made the payments on time, so everything was going fine, at least from my standpoint.

Then John approached me for more funds, and given that he was making the payments on time, the interest rate he offered was very attractive and it seemed his business was doing well, I decided to loan him the additional funds. We modified the loan agreement and now the loan amount was into six figures.

Well, the payments were comimg for a while, but then they stopped, with no communication with me at all.

Given my experince in the past with other dead-beat debtors, I decided not to pursue this matter in court, since I'm sure John transferred all of his assets out of his name and he probably would have declared bankruptcy. I would have invested a bunch of time and money into suing him with no positive result for me. I would only be throwing good money after bad. So I did him another favor and didn't force him into bankruptcy, which would have detroyed his credit and his ability to be employed.

I suppose I was also clinging to the hope that the "decent" Mormon family that they believe they are would at some point do the right thing and make SOME effort to repay me.

Well, I was wrong. They have made absolutely no effort AT ALL to contact me and offer ANY repayment plan. In fact they have NEVER returned any of my phone calls and have made every effort to "disappear". Probably to avoid process servers, etc.

The biggest mistake I have made in my life is believing that others have the same values as me. That is certainly not the case with the Mattice family.

Another expensive lesson I have learned is that humans have an uncanny ability to rationalize their atrocious behavior. They can make up the most ridiculous and disgusting "excuses" for not acting honorably. It's truly sad how rampant this is in our society. Perhaps Johhny Mattice, a graduate of Brigham Young with a BA in Psychology, and the current "Director of Business Development - Western Region" for Compass Energy Solutions can identify this behavior for us? I will guarantee you he doesn't believe it applies to him or his family. These pathetic types can only see others as the perpetrators and themselves as the victims of irresponsible acts.

I have been told that some of the funds I loaned them went to legal fees to fight a child custody battle between Johnny and his ex-wife, and Johnny doesn't feel any sense of obligation to repay me? DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!

I write this hoping that there may be someone in the Mattice family that is not aware of the truth with regard to this matter and that when they are exposed to the truth, they will have some slight sense of morality and confront the others who do know the truth.

Jackie, have you been told the truth? If so, how can you live with yourself knowing that I loaned you A LOT of money to help your family's business and keep your grandchildren in the US, and this is the thanks I get? Have you looked in a mirror lately? What possible "justification" could you people have possibly manufactured to "believe" that you have no obligation to repay me? It's truly mindboggling and sad; you are not the honorable family that I thought I could trust. I'm paying an awfully steep price for trusting people that didn't deserve to be trusted. FYI: My financial situation isn't quite what I suspect you believe it is, and regardless, that should have nothing to do with your obligation to repay.

This is one of a number of steps I will be taking in an attempt to persuade the Mattice family to act honorably and make SOME attempt to repay their debt to me.
