In October of 2001, I purchased a three piece leather living room set from Homemakers. I also purchased an extended warranty, which at the time seemed above board. It was my understanding that it would cover defects, damage, etc. Last year the couch started cracking and it was also accompanied by a black discoloration in one spot. I called Homemakers to set up an appointment.

A "technician came out and looked at the couch and then asked me what happened, he then had me sign a piece of paper and asked if I had any commments to add. I retold what happened to the couch.

The technician gave me an incredulous look. He stated that he could not repair it, and left. A couple of weeks passed and I had not beeen contacted by Homemakers. I called them and I explained the situation and that a technician visited.

I was put on hold and a couple of minutes later I was told that I would have to have it repaired myself. I then filed a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. I received their reply stating that they could not mediate it, and that it was being closed.

They enclosed a reply from Mr. Don Lively, assistant store manager. In his reply he stated that the technician stated that the cracking and peeling had occured over time and was not reported within 5 days.
