Complaint Review: John Robert Powers

What a joke!!! Unfortuneately I fell for it and hopefully you won't!!! JRP places an ad on the radio for auditions for kids. So you take your child in and they do a little commercial for a "talent agent" or so they say he is and agent and they tell you to call the next day at a certain time to find out if your child gets to come back for a "call back". So you call and are so thrilled to hear that your child has been one of the very few chosen to get a call back. I think we all got the same response to get us to come back and spend our hard earned money.

When Gloria asks you to come in that same afternoon she tells you to be prepared to make your payment and bring your check or credit card with you. Of course when you return that afternoon to meet with Gloria you get the story that the agent loved your child and your child would be just perfect with a little training from JRP.

So you sign the contract right there and of course she tells you how your child will meet and audition for "agents" a few times a month. So you fork out $5900.00. It is done in such a manner that you feel obligated to do the transaction right then and there or else you let your child miss out on the possibility of a great opportunity.

The contract states that you have the right to cancel the contract within 72 hours via certified mail and you will receive your refund within 21 days after they receive your cancellation letter. Well I did just that after my husband and I discussed it more that night and decided not to pursue this for our child right now. I actually cancelled within 48 hours. Then after not receiving our refund in the time promised I was having a strange feeling about the whole thing and checking on different websites such as this and the Better Business Bureau. It has now been 29 days and no refund and everytime my husband or I call to talk with Gloria she is never there and she does not call back EVER!!!

I hope Gloria pays her receptionists well because they sure do overkill on screening her phone calls.

Just BEWARE of this company. If it was on the up and up I would have received my refund and phone calls would have been returned to us.

It is extremely upsetting that a business would use a child to get to someone's hard earned money and then not honor the contract they provide.
