John Trader SA, Aka Tobaccopalace.com, Aka Internet-purchase.com, Aka Bluereefproducts.com internet rip-off scam! Great initial price for cigarettes then monthly billing. Internet
This is a classic web rip-off scam. On 1 April, 2004 I responded to spam offering unbelievably cheap cigarettes. The website was tobaccopalace.com - which offered cartons of cigarettes for as low a price as $16. That's the bait.
I made a purchase of $74.75 + $14.95 = $89.70 on 04/01/04. The purchase was made from tobaccopalace.com for tobacco and a membership cost of $14.95, which the vendor required me to pay in order to make my purchase. Of course the language around this "membership" is ambiguous.
I received the products and was satisfied. Until... Since then I have been charged a monthly payment of $14.95 to John Trader SA, Chiasso CH, for a total of $59.80 as of 29 August 2004. I never authorized any payment to John Trader SA for any purchase. Of course, for several months we didn't recognize the tobacco company.
I made the purchase from tobaccopalace.com, but my credit card statement was from John Trader SA, Chiasso CH. This is intentional deceit. When we figured out what's happening I contacted VISA. I sent an email to internet-purchase.com & bluereefproducts.com demanding that their charges end now and the amount of $59.80 returned to VISA MBNA.
I filed disputes with VISA MBNA regarding payments taken from me, and instructed them to stop payments to John Trader SA, TobaccoPalace.com, internet-purchase.com, and bluereefproducts.com.
