I am buying a 2003 Chrysler Sebring. I have had it since October 2003. I purchased this vehicle from Shortline in Aurora.

The car had some items that needed to be fixed, for example the oil leak.

They stated I would need to take it to a Chrysler dealership because it is under the 36,000 mile/warranty.
On several occassions I did take it in for them to only say it was my transmission lines. They were replaced but I continued to have oil leaks.

Again taken in for the oil leak and a concern that every time I stop it feels as if someone is slamming into me from behind.

Again nothing done.

About a month ago I was driving to work when I turned the corner for it to only make a loud popping noise, it pushed out a big black puff of smoke and died.
It was towed to Johnson Auto Plaza to only find that I did not have an oil filter.

Although the manager did state it's possible with the leaking that occurred the oil filter could have came off.

They, Johnson's Auto Plaza is refusing to fix my car because they believe that it is not Chrysler's expense although it is under warranty.

I also spoke to the finance company, Arcadia and they will not assist because they feel it is a Chrysler expense because it is still under the 36,000 mile warranty.

Shortline will not fix it because they sent me to a Chrysler dealership for these because once again it is under warranty.

I do not know where to turn. Please help me.

Sorry to hear about your oil filter on your Sebring. I am an employee with service at Shortline Automotive and we strive for satisfaction. We do service what we sell, but unfortunately, what you have is obviously a Manufactures problem, therefor you must bring it to Chryslers attention. I know of a dealership not more than a few blocks away and this is probably where you went.(Lithia Jeep and Chrysler). If they don't help you, you must contact Chrysler Manu. yourself as they are the ones responsible. Don't give up.

likely that the "servicing repair shop" left the filter loose

#6Consumer Suggestion

Ramona, I am a service manager with a large domestic dealership and reading your concern prompted me to correspond to you. Oil filters "DO NOT" come off by themselves. The only exception would be if the rubber o-ring/seal between the filter and the engine block had failed. If this is the case, the manufacturer of that particular filter is responsible for your repair through your "servicing repair shop".

If the filter is the original (never replaced since the car was new) then the car manufacturer (Chrysler) is responsible for the replacement and resulting repairs while under the factory supplied warranty.

Finally, if you had your car service recently and all of a sudden you have this leak...it is quite likely that the "servicing repair shop" left the filter loose and did not check for leaks after the service was performed.

These are the only 3 scenarios that would cause your filter leak, hope this helps your cause. Always retain your service records, you will need them for proof of dervice.
Good Luck...JR
