Well I just want to say what Johnson Memorial Emergency Room department did to me. Well I ingested to many pills and they forced me to drink charcoal through my nose. I don't know of any emergency room department can literally make you ingest charcoal if you don't want to. First they restrained me put me in restraints which were bad for anyones back but I told them I had back problems major ones. They put those on me in an uncomfortable position for nearly six hours. They didn't give me food or water for nearly six hours and I was dying of thirst. I was in pain and they didn't give me any pain killers which are prescribed to me on a regular basis. Do you call this protocol or abuse? I call it abuse.

It not only makes the person very angry who is being treated like this, but makes them want to hurt somebody because they have been treated so bad. I actually wanted to say something to the commissioner of the hospital of what they put me through. When they finally took me out of restraints I was so angry that I actually hurt one of the nurses really bad. They put me in restraints for another six hours without food or water. By this time I was dehydrated because I was really thirsty. Now I suggest that they don't use restraints for that long on me I know the protocol that they can only leave you in restraints for 15 minutes and then have to let you loose. I want to at least push charges on this hospital for mistreatment. Any lawyer who would do this and probably win I suggest you take me on a case.

Here is the reason the staff did this

1. Policy and Procedure - all hospitals must have policies regarding restraints and the staff follow the procedure outlined
2. You overdosed be it involuntary of voluntary - the ER Staff pumped you with charcoal to save your life
3. You assaulted a nurse - be grateful that the hospital or nurse did not press charges - an Incident was filed per guidelines
4. You probably will never pay the ER bill therefore the taxpayers or the company will have to eat that cost
5. You wanted pain killers - no way - you tried to OD - liability issue

The Hospital Did NOT Act Improperly

At the point you took a potentially lethal overdose you were classified as a danger to yourself and therefore they can legally put you in restraints. Once you indicated you were attempting suicide the hospital can legally give you activated charcoal to prevent you from actually succeeding.

When you assaulted the staff they once again had the legal right to put you in restraints because you demonstrated by your own behavior that you were now a danger to others as well.

You were there for an overdose, they are not going to administer pain killers which could complicate the issue with the large amounts of other medications you already took. They aren't going to risk that you stop breathing because you are already in an OD situation.

The regulations regarding restraints is that they have to be checked every two hours and make sure that the patient isn't compromised. NOT that they have to be removed.

As to the food and water: patients in the ER are typically not fed because they cannot predict which emergency treatment they will need and if emergency surgery becomes necessary the last thing you want is the patient to have a full stomach. Plus in your case with them giving you activated charcoal if they had fed you or given you fluids by mouth you could have very easily started vomiting and aspirated. A VERY dangerous situation.

Bottom line: You took an overdose, assaulted staff, and the hospital still saved your life. They did nothing wrong.

OMG you should consider yourself lucky someone doesn't file charges on you. You apparently took meds and reacted or overdosed on purpose and you expect the hospital to pamper you? NO.....they treated you exactly as you deserve. You were combative and they restrained you so you didnt hurt yourself or others...not only once....but twice...and you still injured someone.

Of course they forced charcoal on you.....they were trying to save your life you ungrateful spoiled over dramatic histrionic little brat. The fact that you hurt a nurse tells allllllll of us readers that you needed to be restrained. The restraints alone weren't what was bad for your back......your fighting and acting out is what hurt your back. ON TOP OF ALL this you want pain meds? OMG Are you kidding me? You were already acting borderline psychotic....why the hell would they risk adding to this?

They should have Baker acted your histrionic combative spoiled little a$$ immediately for being a threat to yourself AND to others. And you solidified that by hurting a nurse.

You certainly wouldnt starve to death not being fed for 6 hours. Had you behaved yourself and not acted like you were psycho, Im sure they would have seen beyond your behavior and given you a drink. Then again....with the number of meds you'd apparently ingested it may not have been wise lest you vomit.

NO rip off here....Just another case of a spoiled histrionic little brat pitching a fit cuz she couldnt get her own way. I say kudoes to the hospital staff.

(FYI....they do not have to turn you loose while you're out of control and at risk for injuring you and or someone else)
