This individual contacted our company, representing himself to be an employee of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, requesting an estimate for a bathroom remodel.
One of my estimators gave a ballpark estimate thereafter.
Mr. Amato... whom I come to find is actually an employee of a company called Burton Claim Service...not Citizens as he represented, did not like our estimate one bit.
It seems it was more than he was willing to spend... and he replied with a long string of emails; hurling profanity, personal attacks, threats, etc...
The icing on the cake is that Jonathan Amato has since gone on the internet, making false and inflammatory statements about my company, and my employee who provided him his estimate... a FREE estimate by the way.
I am VERY happy we did not make the mistake of engaging a contract with Jonathan Amato of Burton Claim Services. It is now very clear things could have been much worse.
In the meantime, I now have to locate all of the derogatory statements he has made online and reply to each one.
Public Adjusters are notoriously crooked in Florida, which is why insurance premiums are so high. You only need to google "public adjuster scam" to get a full picture of the type of people that infect that industry.
However, there are good and honest public adjuster. Please do your homework... I would hate for you to get tied up with Jonathan Amato of Burton Claim Service, Inc.

Burton Claims Service is an Independent adjusting firm and ONLY works for the insurance companies, not the policyholders. Public adjusters only can work for you , the policyholder.
Citizens, a State ran and corrupt operation to everyone who has watched the entire executive staff and local claim managers being fired or running for cover as the Fed look into the corruption practices hires people like Burton Claims and pays them like prostitutes to lie cheat and steal for them and wrongly deny claims as often as possible. Blame your Governor and legislatures who condone the corruption.
They use hundreds of I/A adjusters and some are good and most are corrupt themselves. I have been in the industry for 42 yrs and see both sides of the coin. A good Public Adjuster can advocate for you and get what the contract allows for. After all you paid for a full recovery while the company adjusters are told to pay 40-60% of the loss and if you fight hard enough and long enough you might get 75% of the loss paid and walk away. Its called stop the leakage and pay as slow and as little as possible.
A good PA will get you 95-100% of what the contract calls for by knowing the coverage issues and the underwriting rules to enforce for you. Few attorney even know the inside workings of the insurer like a seasoned Public Adjuster, meaning one that has worked decades inside the carriers, not a contractor who only writes estimates. There is much more to your claim than simply writing an estimate.
Burton has handles a lot of claims for me and if they did as you said, I would be contacting the DFS at www.myfloridacfo.com and file a consumer complaint. They are about average in skill level. They do in fact work for Citizens Ins. Like most carriers they do not have enough staff with the skill level to handle all the claims outside in the field.
Point the finger at Citizens, the worst ran claim operation in the country according to every audit and statics ran on them. They should be disband which may happen soon and stop cheating the policyholders out out of money due them under the contract.
