A person using the email address jossyphine.willy@yahoo.com contacted me wanting to buy some artwork priced at $50 through the Saatchi saleroom (a popular website linking artists and buyers). Instead of using PayPal to complete the transaction, this person insisted that he/she send me a check becuase that is how "their client" was going to pay.

I recieved a check for $3100 in an unmarked envelope from a company I had never heard of. They then requested that I wire the extra funds to the "shipping company" via Western Union.

After researching the company listed on the check, I found out that it was a real company. I also searched for the e-mail address jossyphine.willy@yahoo.com and found a rip-off report on this site describing a similar scam.

This person pretended to speak poor English so that they would not have to answer my questions. However, when I did not understand what I was supposed to do with the extra money because their e-mails made no sense, the person suddenly learned how to write complete sentences. Also, the person never told me where to send the painting they supposedly wanted to buy, all they cared about was that I wired the money to their shipping company.

I took the check to my bank and explained the circumstances. They said they did not expect the check to clear as it did not sound legitimate. They took the check to look into it and I have not yet heard back from them.

The shipping company's address was:

James Brock
4816 HAMPTON RD
DALLAS, TX 75232

I can't remember the name of the company on the check, but it had something to do with horse racing.
