I came across a listing on craigslist for Minneapolis, MN that said the fallowing:

Top company-top pay!

Also hiring a few excellent team leaders who can recruit their own sharp and attractive teams!( 5-7 ladies)

Please reply to this ad with full description and pics along with resume. Include immediate contact number.

I received an email from John Wilson jpwilson2@comcast.net that asked me to give him a call at 925-785-5598. During our conversation, John asked me several interview- like questions about my previous experience and education. The first conversation was formal and professional. John told me he worked for Shaklee and was putting on a tradeshow for vitamins and other nutritional products and needed ladies of all ethnicities and asked me to refer individuals I felt could be a potential candidate for the events that would run at Hilton and Mariott Hotels every Monday through Thursday from October 25th through November 15th and that I would be compensated $80 per event day (which would run no longer than an hour and half) at 7pm on top of being compensated for every referral  that was hired for the events.

Having worked multiple events as a brand ambassador, promo model or whatever you want to call it, I had many resources that I knew were perfect candidates for the event. I emailed all my friends and acquaintances and told them to send their photos and resumes to John. I received a phone call from John and received positive feedback about the individuals I referred. He then had me scout individuals in Miami and Manhattan and told me that another girl was scouting individuals in Chicago.

Eventually the phone conversations started to get shady and unprofessional sounding. Being told that a bodyguard named Tiny would escort us to our cars and that he would be there at the end of the events to pay us which did not make sense because how can you be at all the cities at once?

I wasted my time scouting for these individuals because I received an email from one of the models stating this:

Re: Hey girl,

I thought this sounded familiar, IT IS A SCAM, PLEASE READ
I got the following email a few months ago from a friend
Hey ladies!!!
Interested in making an easy $150 cash? Send your headshot, resume and stats to John,
jpwilson2@comcast.netand put in the subject line REFERRED BY IRIS ALMARIO. He will be interviewing next week and calling everyone on Monday.
He has work in NYC, MIAMI, LOS ANGELES, and CHICAGO.

You will be working at beauty events at high end hotels, only for an hour in the evening, roughly 6:45 til 8pm.
Your job will entail meeting and greeting convention attendees (all ladies) and handing out gift bags with cosmetics. You have to wear a black business suit with a skirt, no pants. He needs all ethnicities.
Feel free to forward, make sure talent is reliable, outgoing, beautiful and personable. The events will run Mon- Thursday evenings from May 10th til June 20th, twice a week (you do not need to be available for every event). If you pass it on, make sure John knows that I referred you.
Thanks ladies! Good luck!

Hi Ladies,

Many of you including myself have had a sketchy experience with John, the contact person for this "promo". From asking to call him at a specific time and disappearing, to asking inappropriate questions, to rudely accusing a few girls of a diva attitude, to pushing to get more referrals from girls and demanding more photos. He's been unprofessional, disrespectful, rude and arrogant. I am soooo sorry I sent his info to you all. My intentions were genuine in helping us all get more work. I heard about this job through a promo model who heard about it from another promo model who was referred by yet another promo model. You get what I'm saying? No one has ever met him. He's promised to come and interview locally but instead asks for more photos and more referrels. Interesting enough I actually got an email from a friend tonight who was excited about this new easy gig that may seem to good to be true. She found out about it from another promo girl.

Please be careful. My apologies again.

Apparently nothing happens after he gets called out by the individual and disappears and moves on to another city under a different alias. John has made inappropriate comments about some of the girls by calling them fat and making rude comments about their look. Personally I think he is suffering from telephone scatologia and needs to seek medical help. It was a complete waste of my time and it is puzzling why one would put on such a show just for a conversation. BEWARE!!!!!
