while i was out of town, my 7 year old son had purchased $80 worth of xbox live points on my chase credit card without permission. i called microsoft the same day because i noticed the charge on my mobile chase app where i track balances. microsoft said they would refund the points and take the card out of the system where it cant be used anymore. they assured me this would take care of the issue and no more charges to could be added and once i get home, i could add proper security settings to block access to the xbox. the next day, before i had returned home, he was able to make the same charge again. i called microsoft and they said there was nothing they could do and i would have to dispute the charges with my bank. i called chase and explained and i was informed that it was not a valid charge and they would get the money back for me no problem. i was told that my son is not an authorized user so any charge he was able to make would not be valid, and that since i had just been refunded, it would prove the company should have acted to stop future transactions. shortly after my dispute was put in microsoft removed the points and the charge. 3 months later i call to check on this with chase and they informed me that the money had been rebilled. i was told there is nothing they can do. i informed them that the product was taken away, and i was now billed. i said that when they took the points, i was ok with that since the charges had been removed. i said they have effectively stole my money if i am being rebilled. to which i was told there is nothing they could do. this goes completely against their statement of fraud protection and being an advocate for their customers. if this is posted publicly, people: stay away from chase.

ok, well, i guess i should expect this since we are in a public forum. if i post on someones complaint, i am at least going to know what it is i am talking about. unfortunately, anyone can post, so i cant really apply my standards. so, i will take the opportunity to "educate" you on how xboxlive works. first off, its my xbox. i occasionally let him use it. xbox stores your card information and you purchase things with microsoft points. the points are purchased if you try to buy something and you have no points. he was just trying to play a game that was advertised on the xbox and just followed prompts. i happened to see the charge the same day and called microsoft. after some digging i found out how the charge happened. they credited me the charge and said they would take the card off the account and immediately my would not be able to be used. i was out of town till the next day. well, the next day, he had done the same thing because the card wasnt removed as it was supposed to have been. they would said that they couldnt help me this time, but advised me that since they erred in not removing the card, i could easily call my bank and dispute the charges. i did. the bank took it off and assured me that it would be taken care of and since i had already had a refund, they should not have authorized the exact same purchase the very next day. after that microsoft removed the points. three months later, the bank rebills the amount and said they wont help me. so i am out the money and the points.

so before you start making accusations, know what your talking about. my son didnt realize the prompts he was following were going to lead to costing actual money. he has a clear understanging now, but there was zero malicious intent on his part from the start. he saw an advertisement, hit some buttons, and then he was playing. he didnt understand the how or value. after your ignorent retort i really tried to keep my sarcasm to a minimal, but as i said before, my complaint on this site is about my experience with my bank. keep your advice for dear abby. in your case, i wouldnt even do that. i would just keep my mouth shut and mind my business because you dont add anything to a dialogue.

Your son STOLE..yes STOLE your credit card number, as had it been anyone else and you found out who it was you would have had them arrested..right?  Granted he is only 7 years old..but apparently he is old enough to know how to get into Mommy and Daddy's Wallet and use their credit cards to purchase things.   The only one who should be out any money here is the 7 year old..either by paying you back from his savings..or working it off.  I bet your car could use a few good washes..couldn't it?

Here is the basics why Chase did not end up covering this "fraud".  It is because your did NOT excercise proper security on your card..as if you had your son would not have had it.  Next, it is very rare for them to cover "family" charges..because again you know the person and for all Chase knows is that you allowed them to do it and then at a later time got upset and said you no longer wanted to pay for it.  The fact is that because you know the person who did it(your son)...the only way they will go forward is if you formally go forward and file a theft report naming your son as user.  Chase will return your money and since you are now out nothing(they are), they will use the full force of the law to go after your son and may have him arrested...again if you actually pushed it.  But again remember that since you are not out any money you have zero say in what happens in this case once you say it was a theft.

Now, the one thing I do agree with you on is the timing.  By default most creditors will take the customers side and reverse the charges on a temporary basis while they investigate..regardless of what you tell them.  However, if after the investigation is complete if they find no fraud..they will reverse the reversal.  Unless there is more to this story this should not have taken 3 months.

In the end instead of telling people to stay away from Chase..perhaps you should be saying "Keep your Credit Cards out of the reach of Children".

yes my son was disciplined. this has nothing to with how i bring up my children. this has to with the adults in the situation. i was out of town and could not take corrective action on top of that i was told by microsoft that my card had been removed from the service. if you want to give a rebutal to what the complaint is for, by all means, be my guest. you did not say one thing that countermands the complaint i filed. keep your parenting advice to dear abby. this is a forum for adults to report incidents with companies.

 is completely out of control.

Instead of blaming Chase, how about warming the little guys butt with a few "friendly" swats to get his immediate attention that this is unacceptable action.

Take care of it now, Mom, or you will find you'll lose more control over time and have more serious problems.
