I think below explains it all.

Barbara,
I did not receive notice that I could actually attend the meeting until the Friday before the meeting. Had I had more notice I would have been able to attend and represent my brother. Previously on two occassions I was told by your office that I would not be able to participate. Military proxies have lives too. Plus my brother is fighting a war so he may not have had time
to communicate or is simply disgusted with the way the situation was handled! It appears only Cindy was repesented at the hearing.

Will my brother now be able to claim the children on his taxes since he is paying 1/2 of the health insurance (which he already has)? I will be consulting
Kevin to see if he intends to appeal. Thank you.

I wasn't mad about the money being raised and who got what I was more mad because it seems that there is very little representation for soldiers and the families in these types of cases. I was mostly mad because the entire procedure did not seem to follow fair due process for everyone involved. It made me feel completely helpless and that I failed my brother and his children. After all my interaction with the courts, domestic relations, etc., I find these organizations do very little to do what is actually best for the children within our county except in the very extreme cases. Fathers, who want to be fathers and take care of their children, are often the victim of the court system. The welfare of the children equates to how much money you have to spend on a good lawyer. The entire experience has been extremely frustrating and sad.

A CPA is a Certified Public Accountant - My father is one
A CPA knows all tax laws (at least good one does)
Just do a google search for a CPA in your area - you can check their status on the State you live in - Every CPA must be licensed and in compliance with the Board that License every CPA
Good Luck
PS I can help you locate a CPA - Just let me know and I will ask Papa

I'm Not A Tax Account But

#6Consumer Suggestion

I suspect the only way he can "claim the children on his taxes" is if the children spent more the SIX months and one day with him. Which is kind of hard to do if he is fighting a war. IF he is "fighting a war" in a war zone, his pay shouldn't be taxable. He may be able to claim what he has paid in health insurance on last year's or next year's taxes. He needs to consult a real tax accountant, not one of those weenie tax places. My daughter-in-law got screwed royally in her divorce, cause she was in the army, in Korea.
