Complaint Review: Just Brakes

Just Brakes is a rip-off! Quoted $122, but charged $517. I found a rock two days later between pad and rotor and master cylinder failure. Duluth Georgia

If my experience with Just Brakes is any representation of others, I am surprised they are still in business. On Friday 9/10, I took my car to the Duluth Georgia Location. I was quoted a figure of $122 to fix my 1995 Honda Civic Brakes. Upon returning to pick my car up that afternoon the total was $517.00.

Upon driving the car that afternoon, there was a constant grinding on the right front end when the brakes were pressed. I assumed it may have been something related to the new brakes and decided to drive it for one day, that being Monday 9/13/04. On Tuesday 9/14/04, I took my car back to the same location to determine what was wrong.

I was informed by the Manager, that a rock had gotten lodged in the brakes components, and the master cylinder had failed. For a cost of only $175 I could have my car back and be in working order. Unreal!

How did the rock get there in the first place? Not from me putting it there, but most likely due to sloppy work, putting the brakes back together. I was told the master cylinder fell apart due to the new parts on the brake system and old sediment caused the master cylinder to fail. If this is the case, why was I not told of this concern, when the work was done? This seems very suspicious and smells of an outright scam.

My expectation is that the master cylinder be replaced by the organization, I stated this to the Manager, including stating that I believe that the rock got into the brake system due to faulty workmanship. At that point, he begin to yell at me and I hung up the phone. Not only is the quality of the workmanship not acceptable, but the ability of Don to manage an unsatisfied customer is unacceptable.
