Just Brakes ripoff took my car apart and grabbed my wallet when I disputed bill Houston Texas

I went in for the $99 special.. They took my car apart & said it would be $777. I said no, put it back, & they said they couldn't, the parts were too messed up. I agreed to have $350 worth of work done; when I returned it was $11 more. They changed the $11 from Shop parts to EPA tax when I disputed it.

When I said I wouldn't pay the extra $11, the man lunged across the counter to try to take my keys to prevent me from leaving, but when I picked them up first he grabbed my purse from my hands, grabbing my chest as well. Another person came outside while I called the police & blocked my car in so I couldn't leave. I filed assault charges with the police and am pursuing legal action.

"Shop supply" charge IS a rip-off

#3Consumer Comment

It's just a way to quote a low price, then charge more after the work is done. That's a rip-off by any definition. The business keeps the money, it's not like a tax that goes directly to the government. Various costs of doing business and ensuring a profit need to be included in the original quote. As for the $11.00 being "minimal", the guy behind the counter was willing to risk jail time in order to get it...

Shop Supplies are not a Ripoff

#3UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, April 22, 2003

I am an exemployee of Just Brakes who was fired because of ethical difference with the company. I have filed a number of rebuttals upon seeing people complain about the services received or methods of sale at Just Brakes. I've always been in favor of the consumer......until now. Let me point out two items.... (1)shop supplies, disposal fees, EPA tax, etc. has been a part of the automobile business since time began..It is a method of recouping expenses not readily seen by the customers i.e. brake fluid, shop towels, lubricants, security services, municipal fees, on and on and on. What the average automotive shop charges is very minimal indeed...Don't believe me? Try itemizing a hospital, or even a plumbers bill. (2) The woman who filed this report emailed me at my home..How did she get my email address? Did ripoff.com. furnish it to her? I thought the names etc. of people who file reports or rebuttals were confidential. All that aside..if $11 on a $375 bill is worth this lady going to war about....she needs to get a life. God am I glad to free of the automobile repair business...Just Brakes will NEVER get another bad report or rebuttal from me...
