These guys purport to give legal advise, among other things.

I'm an attorney, working in labor and employment law.  I read "Andrea" 's answer to the following question, and it was pretty asinine.  She told the inquirer that it's all just a matter of company policy, and not subject to any laws.  Below is the feedback I sent the site.

RE: "Can an employer force an employee to pay for a "Drive off" at a gas station in Indiana?"

"Andrea" (or whoever the hell you are):

I hope the "Esquire" doesn't mean you're licensed to practice law anywhere.

Whether an employer can force an employee to cover losses from driveoffs is most DEFINITELY a question of law, at least in some states.  (See, e.g., Wis. Stat. 103.455).  I don't know Indiana's laws, but your glib, pat answer seems to imply that it doesn't matter what Indiana's law may say on this subject.  (But, in fact, IC 22-2-8-1 does seem to expressly prohibit wage deductions, period.)

I daresay Wisconsin is far from unique, and so I doubt that "it's a matter of company policy" is far from the appropriate answer to this question.

Yikes!  Users of this site, beware.
