Adele Zanetta is 94 years old.  She resides in a skilled nursing home and suffers from dementia.  She sold a property in 2023.  She was the only one on title.  Escrow withheld the State Capital gains taxes and not Federal taxes.  Adele has none of the funds from the sale and almost has enough to pay for her 24/7 care.  She is now unable to sign her name and cannot remember past events.  Her daughter, my wife, has power of attorney and handles all her mail and finances.

We were made aware of the money due the IRS last month when we received a letter, addressed to Adele, from the IRS, informing us of an outstanding tax bill of $125,000.

We immediately contacted the IRS and after several calls were told we would need to start a payment plan and  since our taxes owed were over $50,000 a lien would be placed on property my wife owns that her Mother is also on title.

Our options were to take money out of our IRA accounts or sell the property.  We are both retired and decided it best to sell the property.  We were concerned about a lien and how that might affect selling the property.

We wanted to see if we had any other options.  We are in the process of selling the property and wanted to avoid a lien.

We contacted Justice tax, LLC. and talked with an Arron Manning.  He told us they could help by doing the following:

Defer any payments for 6 months.  Avoid the lien,.  Reduce the interest rate to 4%.  And eliminate penalties.

Justice Tax's fee for this was $11,500, a lot of money.

After checking them out with the BBB and thinking about the benefits of no lien and deferred payments for 6 months the amount seemed justified.  We signed a generic agreement and paid $11,500.

We have now been told by Justice Law that they did not tell us they could defer payments, avoid a lien, or reduce the interest rate to 4%.  We justified the high price of $11,500 for those services.  Not for them to just set up a payment plan that we could have done ourselves with the IRS.  We have been scammed!
