I also purchased (1) 128 MB of RAM from Best Buy. I sent all the proper paperwork (from BestBuy register slips & proof of purchase). I received a postcard stating:

Dear Consumer:

Thank you for participatingin this promotion. Unfortunately we could not honor your request because of the following reason(s): We did not receive an original UPC symbol or proof-of-purchase tab with your request. (An orginal UPC symbol or proof-of-purchase tab is required.)

RETURN TO:
PO Box 15801
Scottsdale, AZ. 85267-5801
M7402053 1336
Dept.#: 030640 SCAN

This Company has acknowledged my rebate request, only to deny me the $7.00, let me say I surely will not return to get "RIPPED-OFF another time. "K-Byte I need 512 MB additional", "IT SURELY WILL NOT BE YOUR BRAND".

"PLEASE", ANYONE LOOKING FOR "RAM", MY RECOMMENDATION IS - STAY AWAY FROM K-Byte.........

If anyone knows of a phone # I would appreciate it.

BEST BUY ... "GOOD - BY" ___ K-Byte ... "RAM IT"

company making Kbyte memory gone bankrupt

I purchased Kbyte memory on 7-23 from my local best buy. Sent all the paper work in and waited 2 months more than they said to. Called to find out what the problem was and found out the company making Kbyte memory had gone bankrupt. Sounds like they were already in trouble and wouldn't back their rebates as early as your date.

Called the local best buy store, explained story to them and was basically told there was nothing they could or would do about it. Emailed national email, got no response.

Called local store again and told them they were the one that used the rebate as the way to draw me in the store, they listed the final price with the rebate so as far as I was concerned they were responsible for making it good. Still got the your SOL speech.

Guess what, found out the South Carolina Attorney General agrees with me so I filed a complaint with them. They have an ongoing investigation regarding rebates. I wouldn't buy a a thing from best buy now. I have so little trust in this company now if they said it was free I would expect a bill.

Memory Rip-Off

#4Consumer Comment

Wed, April 09, 2003

I recently purchased 3 128MB PC100 chips
from k-byte and the packaging says to they are so easy to install. They are so cheap that they are not even compatible with my Dell computer.

After the installation, it gave me so many CMOS
errors and now my computer will not boot
up even with the old memory back in. The
Best Buy representiitive told me that the
chips are responsible for trashing my
computer.
