Kaplan University Kaplan Online University Deceptive Sales Practices, No Accountability, Promised Scholarship They Would Not Pay Internet, Internet
Before I signed up for an online certificate program at Kaplan, I was told that I could complete the program in 6 months and to sweeten the deal, I was promised a $1000 scholarship. In order to complete the program in 6 months, I was told that financial aid would only cover 2 of the 3 classes my first term and I agreed to pay for the 3rd class out of pocket.
What I was not told until well into the term was that there was no way I could complete the program in 6 months and that it would mess up my financial aid for the remainder of the program. In order to have financial aid pay for my second term, I had to drop the class I paid for in order to take it again to have 2 classes my second term to make me eligible for financial aid.
I was also told I needed to buy expensive software for the first term which was wrong. When I questioned him, rather than ask someone, he argued with me and said the other person didn't know what he was talking about. That was an expensive lesson because we were NOT allowed to use this particular software my first term.
I have emails from my admissions adviser regarding the scholarship upon my successful graduation. When I inquired, he states, "Sit tight. I am actually submitting a new tuition voucher right now."
and
"You got it!! I am just waiting for my executive director to sign off on it."
and
"I know they will be submitting it to the account today."
Four days later and after hearing from no one at Kaplan, I am directed to another department that tells me that apparently, the scholarship is not applicable to the program I was in. This was the only program I inquired about. I was told that this is clearly stated on the back of the "tuition voucher" that I never received.
Kaplan has clearly demonstrated that they are both deceptive and not accountable. The funny thing was, I just went online to inquire about the certificate program in question, anonymously. They still claim that I can complete the program in 6 months even though I was told after-the-fact that I could not. That is what really frustrates me. They are not correcting their errors and the deception continues.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will continue to be a voice until the clean up their act. This was a costly lesson for me. When Kaplan says that the phone call may be recorded for quality purposes, I am in agreement; only I need to be the one taping the call.
By the way, I copied the transcript of the online chat where Andrea Sordo states that I can complete the program in 6 months. I brought it up several times so it wasn't mistaken. When are they going to be honest and accountable? Shame on them!
