I am a Karaoke Jockey who trusted this company to provide me with software to run Karaoke Shows. The software program alone is wonderful. However the operation of this company is in great need of major improvements. They list toll-free numbers on their website for customer service, but never answer the phone and they monitor the incoming calls by having you leave a message. If you are calling about support you will never get a call back. If you are calling about purchasing new software, they call you back in less than 5 minutes.

In addition, they issue what they call "Dongles" which looks like a mini USB flash drive (memory stick) which is suppose to be your license key. They don't give you a serial or product number to register, so if your dongle gets damaged, lost or stolen you have to pay for the entire software program again. I contacted this company regarding a replacement for a defective "dongle" and they said "just buy a new one for $149".

I cannot believe that this company does not offer SERIAL or PRODUCT NUMBERS. I have switched to Siglos Karaoke Player which is much much easier to work with and you have a serial number if you ever need to re-install the software for any reasons. Google Keyword Siglos Karaoke Player.

It's too late for a refund, credit or anything. I just want to make sure that this company does not get anybody else, like they got me. This will be the very last time I ever do business with them.

i too have lost the dongle to use the program, and the reply i received seemed very sales oriented and and not very support minded.  i was offered a replacement dongle at 30% off of full price; their position being 1 disc software with 1 dongle.  which means the very same $149 + s/h.

yes they now have dongle-less versions, but this does nothing to lend support to earlier customers who have utilized and enjoyed the earlier format.  i just see it as an additional unjustified cost from my perspective and i will be using a less expensive alternative.

oh well...

Compuhost has gone beyond the dongle

I take issue with the dongle issue as they have had online licensing of the software for a couple of years now.  Gone is the need for the dongle so it's a moot point.  I have had nothing but great support from Invicion after being a victim of several thefts of my laptops over the three years that I have used Compuhost.

Karaokeware and CompuHost are great! Invicion Inc. has a firm user base and support forums...

I have been a Karaoke Jockey (KJ) for about 8 years and started using KJ software in place of CD+G's 3-4 years ago. Out of all the choices out there, both free and paid, Compuhost is the best I've used.

I don't understand the comments about customer service/support. Although I've only called a couple of times in the last 2 years, I had a live person answer the telephone each time. The support is largely handled in their user support forum, which is a great resource as well, taking comments/suggestions from the users as well as solid support responses from customer service. Perhaps 'Larry' only likes to use the phone rather than self-serve support from the forum.

The use of dongles is quite common for software security. I keeps the software developer from getting ripped off by people that buy one copy of software and use it on multiple platfroms. With the dongle requirement, the user cannot do that.

I take issue with the comment: "...so if your dongle gets damaged, lost or stolen you have to pay for the entire software program again. I contacted this company regarding a replacement for a defective "dongle" and they said "just buy a new one for $149"." This is absolutely untrue. I have actually damaged a dongle (it fell into the van door opening and was crushed) and all that Invicion requires is that you send them the damaged/defective dongle, and they send you a replacement. As simple as that. This ensures that you don't get a 'free' dongle. They do NOT require you to "buy a new one for $149.".

As I have several active KJ systems running CompuHost in different venues, I also have several dongles from Invicion. I actually keep a spare to ensure that I don't have to cancel a show due to a damaged or lost dongle.

For the quality of the program, continuous free updates and a great support/user forum, CompuHost is tops!
