Complaint Review: Karen Supper

Karen Supper Chaparral K-9 Training Center. White German Shepherds With Inheritable Diseases: Was Sold One Born With A Heart Murmur Hillsboro, Ohio

These people sell "wolfdogs" and White German Shepherds. I simply feel obligated to make it known that, while there is apparent upset over their "wolfdogs" being possible "muts" (based off of the other report), their White German Shepherds, one of which I was sold, was born with a severe Heart Murmur and died in less than a year. I am going to court over this issue to cover costs but I do not wish to gossip too much about this matter. Just to warn anyone that may be considering a dog from there to know that their German Shepherds now have a history of Heart disease, and from what Karen Supper told me, there have also been cases of Hip Dysplasia. Which, though Hip Dysplasia is common in German Shepherds, she did not warn me about any of these inheritable diseases before I got the puppy. Only that her dogs were "healthy."

Just to give everyone a proper update that does not twist truths, the Judge did not throw my case out, the judge recommend I file the claim in her town since this is where the contract was signed - but I had a good solid case. It had nothing to do with the fact that her dogs do indeed have inheritable diseases. I realized this after the case was filed, (that I should have done so in her county) so did not bother with having my Vet present who insisted that *she* tried to go on about the dog having marks on the neck since she asked about any marks present anywhere on the dog when the vet told her that the dog had a heart murmur. She wouldn't believe me when I first told her that the dog had a heart murmur so I let her speak with the vet. So while talking to the vet over the phone, she tried to find fault and blame in something else to accuse me of. She attempted to deter the real issue at hand; and the vet can tell you the barely visible so-called marks from my dog was from the dog pulling on the collar while trying to teach him to lead, which I informed her of as well, but again she refused to believe because of her own agenda. The vet too tried to reassure her of that but she refused to believe him as well, and he warned me of this before going to court. It had nothing to do with the fact that the dog DIED of a HEART MURMUR that was found shortly after bringing him home, which she tried to elude from in every discussion; thus shows how unprofessional this particular breeder is. Instead of owning up to issues, she tries to run/deter from them as if no one is smart enough to notice.

I am just glad to have deterred and educated the amount of people I've talked to and have seen from this so far and all I can say to those who are interested in buying, BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. There are SEVERAL accounts of this issue in this particular breeder that I have seen and read about since then and it just goes to show, do your RESEARCH before buying from ANY breeder!! Instead of being a responsible breeder and giving me my money back, she insisted on the fact that I provide receipts from vitamins I was supposed to give the dog from the contract which she claims I did not follow. But since I could not provide every single receipt, it went to court. I did not go any further with it after that as I felt she learned her lesson that people aren't just out to be taken advantage of (but since obviously she is trying to defend her poor breeding, maybe she hasn't learned anything). Not to mention, I wanted this to provide a good warning for any of those interested in finding a life long companion.

Just to give everyone an update.   Went to court.  The Judge threw her case out because she did NOT FOLLOW THE CONTRACT she signed.

The Vet that she claims supported her and would help her in court?   He DID NOT show up to help her.   The marks on the dogs neck that she says I should stop going on about, was of great concern to her Vet and was brought to our attention by HIM.

I would just like to note that while The consumer here states that Karen "did not warn me about any of these inheritable diseases before I got the puppy. Only that her dogs were "healthy." "  There is plenty of information available on Karens website stating that German shepherds have a genetic disposition to Hip dysplasia.

In fact, she makes it a point to mention numerous times on the site and offers health certificates upon sale.

If there was no health certificate given, it is the fault of the consumer for taking the sellers word on the situation.

I hate to compare buying a dog to buying a car, but the same principle applies. You wouldn't buy a used car without your mechanic looking under the hood first. And you should have your soon-to-be pup examined by your own vet before purchase if at all possible.

Most breeders will give full vet reports upon request. It's just a matter of being responsible for your future pet.

I have done extensive research on this particular breeder because they breed wolfdogs, and I can't wait until I get to chance to purchase my pup from these awesome people.

BUYER FOLLOWED CONTRACT

#7Author of original report

Fri, December 04, 2009

The contract was not broken since my dog was on Nuvets, which are simply regular vitamins for a dog that have nothing to do with the severe Heart Murmur he was born with, and a dog I bought under false pretenses. When Karen says she gave me the option of returning him and getting a replacement, I told her I would consider but wanted to keep him for as long as I could because I was attached to him as anyone would be to their pet. I was hoping somehow he would get better over time but only got worse. I then told her I would have to bring him back because of the expenses and the heart ache I felt of not being able to help him anymore than I could (all of this information is logged). The heart murmur, unfortunately, was as bad as one could get. Considering this information, it's hard to believe she did not have any other dogs with Heart Murmurs, or this inheritable disease was not acknowledged throughout the other dogs she breeds.
He was NOT over one year old when he died. He died in LESS than a year, and regardless, still obviously young.

As Karen kept going on about Nuvets, I told her I bought them from a site like the one I mentioned, but I did not state which site it was. I didn't buy very many online at all. I had much more difficult problems with him, an inheritable disease which proved to be fatal. What I told her about my mother's friend is true.

As far as I know, Karen has talked to my Vet only once. He suggested I'd go to court over these issues and volunteered himself to speak on my behalf. I am simply shocked she does not feel it in her to compensate over the heart ache of a dog she sold to me and instead insisted I'd have to pay her even MORE money for another dog. Her lines of breeding are severely questioned by me given the diseases that have been reported and not to mention the fact that others have problems getting dogs from her as well.

My vet has volunteered himself to come to court in order to speak on my defense and I am very grateful for the others that are willing to help me in this case. The slight mark she mentioned before on his neck may have been because he pulled against his leash, it was nothing severe, and nothing for her to go on about. Just another excuse, I'm assuming, so she wouldn't have to see through to any of these expense issues. I will have my vet speak up on my behalf for this as well as he has readily agreed.

Karen already agreed once to let me have a free puppy when I threatened to go to court because of the expenses but suddenly changed her mind. I sent her my vet records and asked when we would meet but then she started ignoring my e-mails and calls until I finally got a hold of her.

She asked for even more information about my dog and I decided right then and there it's gone on long enough.

I tried to discuss things out with her. She informed me that the Nuvets vitamins were in the contract just as a safety guarantee that the dog was being taken care of. I have witnesses, a vet who's known me for several years, and medical and other related costs to my dog that prove the care and determination I put in my animals and the time I spent on my poor dog that I had no choice but to get attached to after she sold it to me already born with a heart murmur.

Since she does not believe me, hopefully my evidence and heart ache over losing my pet will be acknowledged and I can get some compensation for this horrible ordeal and finally move on.

BUYER REFUSED TO FOLLOW CONTRACT

#7REBUTTAL Individual responds

Thu, December 03, 2009

Santana Maynard  read and signed the purchase agreement/contract stating that she would keep her dog on the NuVet vitamins using a specific number with the company for tracking purposes, to maintain the lifetime guarantee on her dog.  She never called NuVet and ordered the vitamins.  When the problem with his heart was discovered, at 5 months old, I gave her the option then of returning him and getting a replacement, which she declined.  I also reminded her then to be sure and keep him on the vitamins with our order code number since she would definitely need the guarantee with him.  She assured me that he was on them.  During several other conversations over the following months I again reminded her of the guarantee requirements, each time getting her assurance.

He was over 1 year old when he died, and as we were preparing the paperwork to replace him, I was shocked and disappointed to learn from NuVet Labs that she never ordered the vitamins.

She claimed that she ordered the vitamins through another company to save money, but when I checked I found that they were exactly the same price and she was not buying the vitamins from them either.

Then she claimed a friend of her Mothers was giving her the vitamins.  But when asked for the friends  phone number, the friend suddenly moved and didnt have a phone ?

She claimed she always took excellent care of him, sparing no expense.  But his care was sincerely questioned by us after several conversations with her veterinarian, one being about the abrasions on the dogs neck because his collar was too tight.

When I asked for the receipts for other vitamins/expenses related to his care, she stated that it was not worth her time to fax me a copy of them.

Even with her completely ignoring the contract we felt sorry for her and offered her a replacement for $225.00.  A BIG DISCOUNT from the normal price.  Again she declined.

The parents and grandparents of her dog have no heart problems. They have been hip

exrayed and checked out by a vet.

We have replaced 3 dogs with bad hips since 1972.  Which I think is great for breeding German Shepherds for 37 years!  We still offer the lifetime guarantee, even though bad hips can also be caused by nutrition and environmental conditions.

I dont know why she is complaining about us when SHE is the one that broke the contract, even after being reminded of it, by me, on several occasions.
