On 8/15/09, I took my daughter to this dealership to trade her car for a new Toyota under the Federal government cash for clunker program.   After looking over the cars, we saw one we liked and started shopping around town.  Salesman at Karl Malone Toyota told us he would beat any price we found plus give us a scratch card to reveal another $100.00  to $500.00 off on top of what they would beat by.  Long story short, On 8/19/09 we went to a competing dealer that happens to be the same automotive group (Larry H Miller Toyota) and found a similar car not in stock but on its way in transport with a VIN #.  We went back to Karl Malone with paperwork from partnership dealer and claimed we needed to get $750.00 off sticker and that would match offer.     Well of course, at this point the yay h*o salesman turned us over to "THE SALES MANAGER!"  and disappeared for the rest of transaction.  1 1/2 hours later, this Shyster  could not convince us that we were getting a great deal with the MSRP sticker price.

Toyota Motors is offering a $500.00 rebate to buy their car--not the dealer.

The federal government is allowing us $4500 for our trade--not the dealer.

The dealer will not come down off MSRP even after Larry H Miller beat them by

       $750.00

Now let us stop here a minute and figure this out. Karl Malone Toyota never honored their "guaranteed pricing", they would not give us a scratch card, and to really stab Larry H Miller Toyota  in the back, Karl Malone Toyota  claimed Larry H Miller had no car in transport and that they were lying to us.

We walked out of this dealer after we were told "LET US KNOW IF THIS WILL  WORK" and I followed up by saying "THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK".

On 8/13/09 (the next day), the salesman had the guts to call my 17-year-old daughter on her cell phone and tell her that the car is still there and we need to hurry in to get it without contacting me or my wife.  On 8/14/09 he called my 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER again to state that the above car was not available but he had another,  also once again not contacting my wife or I.

On 8/14/09, my wife contacted the proclaimed general manager of the dealership with this story and a complaint about calling and harassing my 17-year-old daughter.  We had walked out of this dealership with no intention of ever going back and they knew it on the night we walked out.  The proclaimed general manager said he was sorry and did not even bother asking my wifes name before hanging up!

This dealership has taken the negotiation process out of car buying and their greed over the Cash for Clunker program sponsored by the Federal Government has earned them the worst car buying experience I have ever encountered in over 30 years!  I hope that the man I watched and supported for his whole Utah Jazz  basketball career gets a chance to read this and see what his employees are doing to his name and Larry H. Millers'!

credit score

#7Consumer Suggestion

Just an fyi to the last post... Auto dealerships do pull a different credit score then your credit union, bank or mortgage company.  It's called an auto score and I have seen scores different by more then 50 points. Almost 50% of the time I would sign a customer up at a certain rate based off of the score we pulled.  Then the approval would come over and the rate would be higher or lower.  Credit unions will use are credit score if it's better then the one they pulled. That way the customer get's the better rate either way!

The reason why he probably wen't through Toyota Financial is because your from Idaho?  Therefore you aren't eligible to go through any credit unions in Utah unless you met that credit union's membership requirments.  The good news if your credit score was that high you coul have walked into your credit union the next day and refinanced for there lowest rate!!!

It seems that the scum sucking, socially inept, low-life idiots at Karl Malone Toyota, which are lacking in all aspects of customer service are up to their usual tricks.  I was told by Ty, their finance associate that my credit score was 668.  I checked with my credit union and they told me that my credit score was 731, which would put me at a lower percentage rate for the purchase.  He said that it didn't matter what I thought my score was, the only number that mattered was the number he pulled up.

Needless to say I took the sale eventhough I thought there was something fishy going on.  Ty went through the paperwork so quicky that I had to ask him to slow down.  He said that we had to go through it quickly because he had to catch the bank before they closed.  Later I found out that he had placed me at an 8.9% finance rate through Toyota Financial Services.

I believe that the dealerships in the Salt Lake Valley are rating people at lower credit score in order to get a kickback from the particular bank.  I have checked with my credit union several times and they still tell me that my credit score is 731.  Out of all the dealerships that I went to, only one gave me the right credit score.  This dealership was Tim Dahle Nissan.  If you go to them ask for Eric Hill.

To anyone else reading this stay away from Karl Malone Toyota, they will rob you blind.

go to stopautofraud.com you can watch how a car dealer changed the income on a young woman's credit application. It was captured on HIDDEN VIDEO CAMERA!

Simply go to Stopautofraud.com and click on the 'Dateline Investigation' that is on their web page & you can watch it. I believe that the parent company of that dealer is- Sonic Corporation, which is the 3rd largest Automotive Dealer Group in the USA, if I'm not mistaken. I also believe that Sonic's CEO is a BILLIONAIRE. If I remember correctly, his name is Ollen Bruton Smith, and I believe his son is the COO.

It seems as though there's a lot of 'HANKY-PANKY' going on in the car business, wouldn't you agree?

*Have a wonderful week, Jeanski, & don't forget to go to the MERRILL LYNCH page of this site for some valuable information that St. Clair reported in a recent Rip Off Report. It seems as though there's some 'HANKY-PANKY' going on in the mortgage business too!!!

Karl - as usual your posting is irrelevant. Why don't you stop?

To the OP: I would've let the dealer make a contract with your daughter and then sue him. A 17-year old is not legally able to enter into a contract.

Another dealer gone bad :-(  We've all had to deal with them. Now we know not to patronize this particular one!
