One of the largest insurance fraud scams in Southern California, particularly Los Angeles, is UA Fraud.  What this means is that unsuspecting patients are asked to provide urine samples on a daily basis (as much as 6 days a week) and the rehabs bill the insurance companies THOUSANDS of dollars per cup.  When the insurance company denies coverage, these scammers try to bill innocent parents and families who are desperately trying to save their adult children from the dredges of drug abuse.

UA fraud involves multiple facilities and “sober” business owners conspiring who own the labs and the billing companies in order to get paid.  When clients test dirty this is a cash cow as the individual gets thrown into the money grubbing cycle.  If they relapse, the insurance payouts begin brand new authorization cycle of 180 days.

These rehab and sober living companies know how to scam the insurance companies by giving the individual a fake address that may even be out of state.

Lauren Philihower of Karuna Recovery buys clients’ policies and switches their insurance companies every few months to make sure their rehab visits are all covered.  Additionally, she has bought people cars to buy their silence – she is the Oprah of sober livings – if you go to her, you for sure have a great chance of getting a car or a job, as long as you keep your mouth shut.

The bed vouchers that the sober living companies receive are against the law – NO sober living should accept payment for a policy that was bought by an owner.  The residents are often flown in from other states and have no plans to be productive members of our society, rather, they are taught the ins and outs of the insurance fraud game and will stay in LA, employed as staff by the sober livings and are constantly either relapsing or on drugs in order to reset their insurance benefits so they can continue living for free.

She recently announced that she was moving to Santa Ana on the industry Facebook page called “It’s Time for Ethics in Treatment” – saying that she was hopeful that this would give her a new start to her damaged reputation.  In fact, her former client-then turned disgruntled employee - dished on ALL, sharing screen shots of the invoices to rehabs as well as texts between her and a rehab fighting over a Body Broker deal.

Lauren and her business partner preach about how happy they are sober on YouTube, however there are photos of cold beer on her Facebook.  If you read the reviews on Google Maps and Yelp about Karuna Recovery Residences you will see former clients saying they were moved around due to insurance policy changes.  Yelp's reviews speak about the UA insurance fraud.

Like other sober living owners, she has been awarded the title of “Owner” at a rehab called BLVD so that she can get paid at her sober living.  All of the sober livings mentioned in this post are part of an illegal conspiracy to traffick individuals from one place to another.

All of these rehab owners know the policies to buy, where there are 180 days approved, which is a gravy train.
