Complaint Review: Kay Disbennett

Kay Disbennett Mary Kay Disbennett Refusal to release deceased employee's pension/contract funds to family, due to sexual orientation Columbus Ohio

Ms. Kay Disbennett held on to a deceased gay employee's pension/remaining contract funds, citing that the employee had a "special relationship" with the surviving partner (who he was legally married to in another state).

When the deceased employee's mother tried to obtain the funds, she was meant with harsh opposition from Ms. Disbennett, also. At one point, Ms. Disbennett told the surviving partner that she had already sent the check to the deceased (of course, she hadn't)!

Overall, it took the family over 10 months to obtain the monies (about $17,000).

In closing, Ohio State University claims to be a liberal and tolerant university, but PLEASE BEWARE that they are not as tolerant as they say that they are.  Some of the people at Ohio State that offered assistance were only trying to stop the complaints that were being levied against their employer, concerning this matter.

In an effort to get help,I contacted many of the deceased employee's "friends," who either did not respond to my requests, or were really unhelpful.

I hope that any prospective gay student or gay faculty member realizes that, BEFORE you sign that contract with Ohio State, you are definitely NOT among friends at this university!!
