Ken Daughtery Roofing co. Bad roofing job and the business that doesn't give a dam Stevensville, St. Joseph, Watervliet, Benton Harbor Michigan
In the spring of 2000 I hired Ken Daugherty Roofing to strip, re-deck and re-roof my home in Watervliet. The job was done in the lowest quality manner and I had to get him to come back 3 times. Each time saying "thats looks good to me" and "shingles will settle down after a hot spell".
In one 40 foot stretch of roof he used 8 pieces of drip edge, appearenty left over from other jobs. In one spot the new 1/2 plywood overhung the previous roof and where drip edges met he pounded them over with a hammer to meet. In one area ice shield or something was shingled over leaving a lump about 3 inches high and a foot across. When pointed out he said "you want me to re-roof the whole place ? I replied that he was the roofer and could fix it anyway he could. He did repair many of the mistakes but always with great complaints.
I was given a 10 year warrantee on lablr and material. In the fall of 200o I noticed a edge section of roof raising up. I called him and he said he didn't see any problems. By spring of 2001 the roof raised 3 inches and I could put my hand under the new 1/2 inch decking. Bee's started to enter and I called him..and called him and called him. Finally, in August 2001 I had another builder re-do the spot and found a 3 foot square hole Daugherty. had roofed over and the heat/moisture and lifted it up. I sued him and settled for the repair cost ($600) but was screwed out of the value of the remaining 9 years of warranty because his attorney said he would drag it out for years.
Don't call him unless you want work done by "crews" with no supervision from the company owner and given a bonus for completing the work quickly with no concern for quality.
