Those who are not (Members) of Key Bank are charged $7.50 to cash a check written to them on Key Bank accounts if you go to the Key bank location. This is an underhanded attempt to get people to open accounts with Key Bank while fleecing cash from the check holder if they do not comply. They also have offered $200.00 to open an account this should be a warning sign to people if a Company must offer to pay you to work with them they plan on making that money back in some way; what do you think they will do to make that money back?

Did you run out of deposit slips?

Simply deposit the check into your own account.

“what do you think they will do to make that money back?”

Perhaps you are unaware of the basic principles of banking: Banks lend out depositor’s money and then charge the borrowers something called interest.

“Scam,Unethical,immoral,Fraudulent, Coerceive”

What is the scam? Specifically, what is the fraud?

The reason this complainer doesn't have a checking account is because they CANNOT get one!  Why?  let me guess a second time...massive overdraft fees unpaid because they cannot or will not learn how to manage a simple checking account.

What you are describing as something new and "earth shattering", has actually been around for several years.  I don't think there is a single bank that doesn't charge this fee.  In fact the average fee is somewhere between $5-$10 so they are right in the middle of that.

If you want to avoid this fee the solution is simple....deposit the check in your own bank.  As when you deposit it in your own account you are their customer and won't get charged a fee.

Oh but you say "Well I don't have a bank account", okay then perhaps you should open one up.  I'm not saying at this bank but any bank.  In fact when you do, ask them what their "Non Account Holder Check Fee" is...you may in for a shock.

Of course there is another way.  Have this person who gave you the check, give you cash instead...or perhaps have them add the $7.50 fee to the check they right so you come out even.
