Booked a boat to be delivered to our resort for one week. We were suppose to have it first thing in the morning but he never called. When I finally was able to reach him at 11am, he said he would have someone deliver it and call when it was on the way. We were held hostage at our campground until we finally called again at 3pm. We were told it was at the ramp but we were next to the ramp and no one was there. My husband called again at 3:30pm to tell him we still wanted the boat but didn't feel we should be charged THAT day's rental. Capt. Joe hung up on him and that was the last we talked. For all we know, there is no boat rental. It sounds like a scam to me and apparently not the first time he's done this.

Today I called my credit card company to find out he charged it $596.00. Well, Capt. Joe, if your reading this, I filed a police report with the Monroe County Sheriff's office tonight and am pressing charges. Looks like we'll meet after all. Maybe you'll show up then.

My name is Jon Lockin and I will include my full name because I stand by the following statements with full and honest confidence. I am deeply offended that you have said these atrocious accusations towards Joe. My family has been doing business with Joe for the past five years, each time in which we visit the Keys we rent not one but two boats from Joe and Jenny. Each time they have been either delivered promptly or we have picked them up as scheduled. I cannot imagine Joe doing such a thing, and on a recent trip I spoke with him about this very situation. He informed me that his driver delivered the boat to the boat ramp at your accommodations.

Having been in business for over ten years Joe knows the owners of most of the rental properties all over the keys and also the codes to their automatic gates. The driver let himself in and upon delivery, the sky opened up and it began to rain. The customer was no where to be found. The driver remained at the boat slip while the customer was contacted. She stated that she was there and there was no driver. The same was stated by the driver in regards to the customer. The following phone call that occurred I will not reiterate as I was not there first hand, and the words were rather harsh from the customer.

Alas, after the exchange of words, the police were notified and the charges quickly dropped might I add. Whether the misunderstanding was the fault of the driver or the customer, one thing remains, that is that Joe is one of the most honest and kind hearted people I know of. On several occasions he has helped my family find houses to rent last minute out of the kindness of his heart, and just this spring when he heard I would be visiting for a week to act as tour guide for some extended family, his wife Jenny picked me up from the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, a good three hour drive from their home and office, offered me his guest room free of charge, gave me a car to get to Key West, and gave me a boat to go out to Looe Key Reef three miles off shore.

NONE of which this so called "scammer" and "creep" would even let me speak of paying for. People visit the keys to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban living. Most everyone there is laid back and unbelievably kind, and Joe is one of these people. If you honestly believe that this man is the type to pull a stunt like this than you have obviously never met Joe and his lovely family. I hope that if you go to the Keys again you have a chance to meet the man on the other end of that phone you so unjustly wronged with this posting, and I am confidant that you will see how unbelievably flawed you are for saying such out right lies.

I promised to tell everyone that if Mr. Jenison returned my money, I would update my complaints. As of today, he has returned $$483.65 of the $596.63 charged. The difference is a one day boat rental which we are still disputing. However, good for you Mr. Jenison. Just $112.98 left before this is behind us.

Did this boat rental place pre-charge your card prior to your vacation, or did they charge it afterwards? The reason I ask is this. It could make a difference between a civil case and a criminal case.

If your card was charged prior to your trip, you will end up having to settle with your credit card company. This is a contract issue, so I don't think the police will be able to legally do much for you. They may be able to talk to the business, but I'm not sure they can charge them. Contracts almost always mean civil, not criminal.

However, if they charged your card afterwards, you may be able to argue a criminal case.

I live in the area of Summerland Key, so I am familiar with this business. I have never dealt with them personally but have heard horror stories ranging from crappy boats to their family members breaking into neighboring businesses. Either way, good luck. I know how it feels to have fraudulent charges on your credit card.
