Stop TECHsmart Now! Stop Sexual Harassment!
One can only shudder to think of how many employers are using the circumstances of the Great Recession and mass unemployment to impose an intimidating and humiliating work environment on workers. This kind of appalling behavior will persist until workers learn their history and their rights, and begin to fight back. TECHsmart is hiring so many people now because in one week, two women were fired (one was taken back) and then four other women quit out of interest for their own safety and well-being. That's five out of nine workers in the San Diego corporate office. TECHsmart CEO Duncan Wood is a shallow egomaniac with nothing to brag about. He thinks he's a "big baller" but essentially buys all of his attention at nightclubs and by forcing employees to party with him. He "hates Human Resources," and says he wants a company where they "work hard and play hard"--but to him that means forcing workers to drink heavily on the job, blasting loud music and enduring his hard-core sexual innuendo and provocation. "Guru" Dharam Khalsa, distinguishable by his Seikh attire, is a happy accomplice. TECHsmart: 1. Doesn't hire "Fatties" in the words of CEO Duncan Wood. They only hire women that Wood would m********e to, and men who the women employees would m********e to--again, the words of Duncan Wood. 2. Demands that employees perform shockingly humiliating acts on demand. One salesman was ordered to wear a monkey costume to his mall kiosk, and was forced to quit when he was refused. Recently a female employee was ordered to receive an unwanted haircut from another employee because Wood didn't like her hairstyle. 3. Capriciously and viciously terminates employees, usually in front of the rest of the workforce for any minor violation, but mainly because they would not comply with one of Wood's obnoxious demands. The fear of public and humiliating firing hangs like a cloud over the head of every TECHsmart employee, every day. Sounds "Fun," doesn't it? 4. Doesn't fairly compensate employees and is in continuous violation of California Labor Law. They hire people on part time with no benefits, then work them 40+ hours a week. They quickly compel people to go on Salary, and will not pay them overtime, even when they make too little to be exempt from overtime. Having "fun" yet? Duncan Wood and "Guru" Dharam Khalsa should not be employers
