Rip Off, Lies, Harassment, and destruction of property!! So it started with a knock at the door.  The young man offered to clean carpet in any room for free.  I asked why he was offering such a service and he explained that showing and demonstrating how the Kirby vacuum worked gets people talking about it.  So I asked if the offer was only to create word of mouth advertisement and his repliy was yes.  He agreed to clean the carpet on the stairway.  After letting him in, he began to set up the kirby device in my living room.  After listening to hthe beginning of his sales pitch I made it very clear that I wanted him to be well aware that I would not be purchasing the Kirby or anything else.  He said that was okay and that he still had to pitch his sale and demonstrate the Kirby to get paid.  The poor young man had cleary been overworked because he was parched and often forgot what he was saying and doing.  After placing about 30 dirity filters from the demonstration on the carpeted floor, he asked me to pick them up.  Next we went upstairs for him to gather many more dirty filters.  Just as I was growing inpatient, he dropped the vacuum down the stairs which put holes in the walls and dents in the wood flooring at the landing.  While I was in the garage looking to see if I had the items to patch holes, his superior came to the door.  He started to do more demonstrations as I waited.  He asked if he come show me sonething else and I finally said no.  He begged and I said no.  He pleaded and I then said "I am done.  You guys have been here for 3 hours (YES three hours!!!), my kids are in bed, you've put holes in the walls and I want you to clean the stairs like you said you would and leave".  He started the direct selling process and explained that the Kirby was $3,600.  I laughed and told him too that I told the other young man that I would not be buying anything and that my family was in no position to be purchasing a Kirby.  He pushed for the sale.  I said no. They started cleaning the stairs.  He came back for another offer of something like $2,400.  Again I said no and he pushed for different payment options.  I thought he excepted what was like my sixth "No".  After a short time, he came back with a last offer of $1,600 and begged to explain the payment options.  Yes begged, like with his hands together as if praying.  After many refusals, I consider it to be outright Harassment.  After cleaning the stairs, they went downstairs and left.  They conveniently forgot to clean up after themselves so there were dirt and dust balls all over the living and upstairs.  There was also residue on the floor downstairs, the stair landing and a bathroom sink from foam they used to clean with.  They left my home far messier than when they came, damaged the property, harassed me and left me to clean up their mess before I went to bed.  After over 3 hours!!! They did not leave any card or contact information even when I asked for it so this Rip Off report is the best I have for warning others so it doesn't happen to them!

 Hello,

We were disappointed to read your comments/post regarding a recent visit by a dealer attempting to sell a Kirby system.

As you may be aware, Kirby systems are sold through authorized, independent distributorships to consumer end-users through a network of salespeople ("dealers").  Although they are independent, we expect them to act professionally and ethically at all times.

Please contact our Consumer Relations Department at 800-494-8586.  Representatives may be reached Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, EST.   After speaking with you and obtaining details, the owner of that distributorship will be contacted and your comments investigated.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Wasn't about trust?

Okay I am sorry when in the title of your report you talk about lies and harrassment, I guess I just figured that there were some trust issues that need to be addressed.  Or in your mind are there different levels of lies where a liar be trustworthy?

As for asking them to leave, again sorry but if you start accusing them of harrassement and them being there for 3 hours I just figured that you would have asked them to leave at some point.

The real strange thing is that you seem to be defending the salesman.  After all now the reason he most likely did not give you a business card is because he didn't want to get fired.  Okay...so with all due respect why would that be a concern of yours.  Do you really think he should keep his job after all of this?  Do you really think that you should be on the hook for the damages?  In all honestly, the whole "overworked" and begging act sound like Salesman 101 where based on your update he probably did pull the wool over your eyes to try and gain sympathy.  Given time you probably would have bought the vacuum.  But in the end you do need to be commended for not totally falling for it.

Wasn't about trust issues like there seems to be in the rebuttal

If you would take time to notice assumption and jumping to conclusions, you would have little to talk about in your rebuttal.  If you read carefully, I did not ask them to leave multiple times, I refused their sales offer multiple times.  Also, when I was in the garage, where was the salesman?? You seem to assume that he was out of sight.  Even if he was out of sight, which was not the case, I did not have trust issues about him stealing which seems to be what you allude to.  Finally, I know where they were from (it is in the title description), but did not get a business card likely because he suspected that after such a bad experience he did not want to risk losing his job.  Overall, you may want to consider reading Ripoff Reports in a detailed manner and without projection of you own issues before submitting your rebuttal. The attempted disrespect is not appreciated.

This is the best way?

While this site is great to alert people I really wonder what is going on?

So if I get your report, you let a salesman into your house.  You ask them numerous times to leave, but they refuse.  They damage your property.  You ask them for ID or contact information and they refuse.  Then during all of this while all of this is going on in your house, you leave them alone and go to the garage because your biggest concern appears to be being able to patch the hole in the wall.

So here is a thought.  While when all of this was going on did you not call the police especially after their multiple refusals to leave?  At the very least to get their contact information for the damage they caused so you can follow up with them.  You also obviously have Internet, so why didn't you spend about an additional 30 seconds to find the contact information for the company?
