Kitchenaid Free broiler pan scam. Not quite so free St. Joseph Michigan
So I bought a high priced, high end wall mount oven. The KitchenAid is supposedly above the Maytag and Whirlpool brands. I know it was expensive. KitchenAid has decided it is not cost effective to include a broiler pan with the new top of the line ovens like they do the lower end models. You have to order it from the toll free number according to the leaflet included with the book.
After phoning and giving my information to the person on the phone I am informed I will be paying shipping charges. This miffs me as it did not mention this on the leaflet plainly, they should have just included in in the oven then I wouldn't be paying extra shipping, but okay whatever. Then he proceeds to tell me the shipping charge will be $15.00 WHAT??! I've shipped a lot of things, all over the country, this charge should be no more than $7.00. In fact if you goto the KitchenAid web site and goto the accessories, add a broiler pan to your cart and head to the check out the shipping price totals $6.50. You have to order over $100.00 worth of merchandise before you get your shipping charges up to $15.00.
Now I'm sorry, but that is not free, that is a scam and it should be illegal. It may be, I don't know. The sales droid tried all manner of excuses including "It's a different product." Well the only difference between the two that would make a difference in shipping costs would be the "free" one includes a wire rack. There is no way that the inclusion of this rack could triple the shipping charge. The only conclusion I can come to is that they are calling it free and and recouping the majority of their cost in an inflated shipping charge.
Way to go KitchenAid, nice way to treat your customers who paid a premium price for your higher end equipment....
