I located an online kitten adoption site where I found a free kitten that I was interested in adopting.  After expressing my interest in adopting, I received a number of e-mail replies.  The original ad was for a free Savannah kitten.  I have included the conversation as it occurred.

First response from individual wanting to adopt was as follows:  "Hello my dear, Thanks so much for your interest to my Savannah kittens for adoption .i will like you to email use now on (lindabless137@yahoo.com) for more information and pictures of the kittens.e-mail us now (lindabless137@yahoo.com)"

I e-mailed asking for additional information.  I then received the following reply, "Hello,
thanks for the interest you have for my Savannah kittens.  I have 4 kittens available for adoption to good homes.  They are very playful with kids and other pets. They will follow you every where you go in the house, they are actually more than dogs.  I have two females and one male.  mimi and pinky are females while the males are benn and jin.  They are 6-7 weeks old.  I do not want to sell them because i do not want them to be put in cages , i want them to be treated as pets . I would like to ask you the following questions:  Where are you located?  Have you ever had a kitten before?  When would you like to have these kittens?  Whats your number to reach if need be?  Are you interested in taking all the 3 kittens or just one?  Below are the available kittens documents:  * 1st and 2nd round of shots (given VET)  * Two vet checks.  * Complete health records.  * Complete  deworming protocol.  * Bathroom / WC.  * CFA papers.  Please let me know if you are interested in taking all the kittens or just one. I would also like to know exactly where you are located.  I have attached pictures of these kittens. I hope you love them?  My regards"

I then replied with "We are interested in a female kitten.  We are located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Can you give us some additional information?"  "In addition, is there a cost associated with this adoption?"  (The kitten was listed as free.)

The individual replied as follows:  "like what details ?"

I then answered with "For example, how old are the kittens? Are they leukemia and FIV negative? Are they registered purebred Savannahs? Have they had any vaccines? Are the spayed?
In addition, I am unsure where you are located."

The individual replied, "i though the mail i sent to you explained all of that ?"

I apologized and the individual then responded with the following:  "My kittens have their pedigree and all health certificates, Very sweet and playful. They are ready for a new home were they would be spoil with pets love, care and affection.  Kittens are raised in our home and very socialized, friendly with kids and other animals they love to play, and they love to sleep on your lap or shoulder or pillow. They have an amazing coat. Great personality and will make perfect addition into your home. They are trained to use the toilet and will not make a mess in the house . the kittens are healthy vet checked and vaccinated and would come with all health and registration documents .  All shots and health certificate available. I am presently locatedhere in North Dakota for treatment because i was recently diagnosed with Basal cell carcinoma involving the ear and i will be having a surgery very soon. I really do not have much time to love and care for the kittens because of my poor health situation. I will be sending the kittens over to you from here. All you will have to pay is the transportation fee of the kittens that will cost you $160 for one or $320 for two ..One male goes for $280 including delivery. You shall pay the shipping fee directly to the airport. It will be a few hours flight and you shall receive  the kittens. I will be very happy if you can understand my situation and adopt the kittens into your home. How the process will work out below i will need your details in order to make a registration reservation for your kitten to be delivered to you. when the registration is done, the agency that will be delivering your kitten(s) to you will make a transfer of ownership of the kitten as you the new owner first. When that is done, they will need you to make payment so that your papers can be issued before they begin delivery. Ones your payment is confirmed with them, they will give you a refund receipt which you will be able to get back your money anytime you dont feel comfortable proceeding with the delivery ok . so if interested to proceed do get back to me with your delivery details which will be used as below Full Receivers Names :::::::::: State / City ::::::::::; Home Address :::::: Phone Numbers :::: Zip Code  :::::::::::::Nearest Airport to your Location ::::: Name(s) of kitten(s) you are taking :::::: Please do let me know which exact ones you are interested in taking by their names in the pictures . i wait to read from you soon .If not interested still mail back to let us know. Note: Feel free to express yourself. God Bless"

I then asked if I could visit this individual and the cat in North Dakota.  The individual replied "so when will you be coming to North Dakota and see the kittens ?"  I replied, "We could possibly come the first week in March."  The individual replied, "sorry they wont be available by then , i still have just about one week or less to get them a new home in order to proceed with my surgery"  I replied, "Ok.  Well, I am sorry for your situation, and I wish you the best as your proceed with your surgery.  Thank you for your time."  The individual replied, "anytime you can afford the delivery fee for yours to be delivered do let me know ok"

This was obviously a scam from the very beginning, but I decided to follow it to its logical conclusion.
