While I did not make it through the front door of the company I wanted to note how they are hot for you one second, then drop you the next.

I went through the hiring process over the phone, filled out all paperwork, spent hours on the phone with the recruiter trying to sort out why i have been unemployed for many months.  After all of that the recruiter says he has everything passed and I am good to go for monday orientation.  He said he will fax, or call, to let me know when to show up and what hotel to go to.

Thursday I get no calls, and friday I decide to call myself.  Maybe they are busy and forgot about me, i think to myself.  So I call and ask for the guy who is 'unavailable'.  Another guy gets on the phone and I tell him about wanting to schedule orientation.  I give him the SSN and he says 'well we dont have your DAC yet, and looks like they never ran it' then after a pause he goes 'We cant hire you right now, call back in a few months to try again'.  So I start to ask why, and very hateful he says 'were not telling you why, its company policy'.  I ask him 'who can tell me then' and he says 'no one'.

Im not sure what his problem was, but if they never looked at my DAC how can they make a decision to not hire me a day later when they wanted to before?

Knight seems to want to best of the best, but doesnt want to be the best they can be to the drivers.  My last job I had a 90% ontime rate, never lost cargo, never had a claim i had to pay, never broke any of the major rules (no abandoning truck, failing drug test, refusing tests, etc).

Hiring reasons

#2General Comment

Agree, not all truck companies will give exact reasons for not hiring.  It's their right, and they are entitled to hire whoever they want.  I've heard similar excuses from other companies.  I have 12 years of experience with no serious issues with DAC.  I seem to have gotten lucky with no tickets for speeding and such.

With my hiring experience with Knight Transportation, they keep offering to hire me but I can't seem to make it to orientation.  A year ago, I was suppose to make it to orientation but opted to try another company.  Knight Trans was always understanding.  And when I applied for work for them six months later, they accepted my application again.  A month ago I was given approval for orientation, but then my wife got in an accident in taking me down to orientation.  Oops, so much for orientation.  Once again, Knight Trans understood and waited for my car to be repaired.  I forgot to mention another time, but Knight Trans seemed to understand as well.

I don 't know any other company that would keep inviting me to orientation.  For example, I was invited to Koch Trans, but decided they weren't for me.  They always had such a negative attitude toward me ever since.  :-)

So, I think it all depends on the company and their policies.  So, I will offer Knight Trans my 12 years of experience and see what happens.  If I'm lucky, I will keep busy for many years to come.  (Think positive).
