About three months ago (September), I purchased a eWheels EW-72 scooter. Having much experience in repairing electronic and mechanical systems, I was curious about my new acquisition. Upon disassembly, I was immediately struct with how sloppily the unit was assembled.

The motor controller was hanging by one thread stripped screw and the battery terminals were loose. After re-locating the controller on a secure panel I made, and tightening the battery terminals, I thought I was done. Not so!! After riding a short distance, I heard a knocking sound from the front wheel.

This was found to be an outer wheel bearing that was not seated properly in the defective wheel race. Also the steering was erratic, needing constant corrections to keep on straight tracking. This was due to defective upper and lower ball bearings in the steering control bar, which caused excessive camber play.

I called eWheels customer service and after convincing them I knew what I was talking about, they agreed to send me a replacement wheel and control bar. The bar they sent rattled loudly because of a piece of metal inside, which was hermetically welded. I solved this by injecting expanding foam in drilled holes.

Needless to say the new bar bearings became loose as the original. Don't think this was a easy fix. The ball bearings they used are an odd size -- NOBODY STOCKS -- ANYWHERE!!!  At my age, I don't mind a  challenge, but this is ridiculous.

Summery: I do not recommend anyone purchasing any eWheels EW series scooters unless you are good with inventive engineering and repairs

Additional issues with EW-72 scooter

I forgot to mention in earlier summery of additional problems with the unit. Screws holding the seat did not have locking nuts and fell out. Also, I had to buy new batteries ($180.00) because the originals were too weak, not covered by warranty.

The adverised range of 43 miles per charge is a flat out lie! Even at 10 MPH, you might get 10 miles per full charge. The unit is fast, though -- full speed close to 24 MPH, but at reduced range.
