Shopping at the Kohl's store at 2140 N. Elston Ave. Chicago IL. 60614. After shopping to buy my kids clothes for their Mother's Funeral. I did have an old in Store Kohl's Card that can only be used in the Kohl's store only. But since I didn't use much it was inactive. At the check out the cashier said if I signed up for their Visa card I would get a discount on my purchase. For some reason it didn't go through, but the cashier said I would get a letter in the mail. So I used my Sears Citi Platinum Master Card to make my purchase. Sears Cards are very hard to get you must have very good credit.  I got a letter in the mail and this is what it has to say:

Thank you for your recent appllication for a Kohl's Credit Card Visa/Master Card) account issued by Capital One N.A. Due to the status of an existing Kohl's account we cannot approve your current request. If you have any questions regarding this decision, please contact us at the number below.

Your credit score is: 877

Date:01/20/2015

Scores range from a low of 501 to a high of 990

Key factors that adversely affected my credit score:

No usable real estate accounts

Credit score to low

Wow my Credit Score is to low?! For a Crappy Kohl's Credit Card Visa/Master Card) account issued by Capital One N.A. What does Real Estate have to do with a Crappy Kohl's Credit Card Visa/Master Card) account issued by Capital One N.A. I'm shocked since I was approved for a Capital One Platinum Prestige Master Card 10 days before I applied at Kohl's.

I did read the Letter and Called Kohl's-Trans Union

I did read the letter! For your FYI the card I had was a in Store Card Only and could only be used in Kohl's. So it never came up on my credit report.  Now the cashier was offering a Capital One Visa Card with the Kohl's name on it. Now after calling the Kohl's number on the letter it was stated since I didn't use their In Store Card much they put in as inactive. I didn't owe anything and was paid in full and on time when it was used. I also called Trans Union and they stated to me it was due to My Credit Score and  No Useable Real Estate Accounts. So let me see with a credit score of 877 no late payments on my report, oh I guess it must be my credit score and since my house is paid and my new car are paid.

You state you had a current Kohl's card but it was inactive.  You received a denial letter that stated the following

Thank you for your recent appllication for a Kohl's Credit Card Visa/Master Card) account issued by Capital One N.A. Due to the status of an existing Kohl's account we cannot approve your current request. If you have any questions regarding this decision, please contact us at the number below.

Notice the part that I underlined.  So for what ever reason the status of the account you currently have is causing you a problem with getting a new card.  Did you call the number with your questions, or did you just decide to post some anonymous report on the Internet without knowing all of the facts?

Oh and just as an FYI you received basically a form letter that is required by law when you are denied credit.  It will always list the top reasons affecting your score, even though they may have NOTHING to do with why you got denied.
