Krystal Lake Campground Unconcerned owners and lack of safety for consumers Vassar Michigan
We were camping at this campground with a group that contained 35 campers. Most of the group came in on Friday and were staying until the following weekend. While it was the hottest week of the year, the campground pool was cloudy and dirty. The campground did not control the seasonal campers, as we had use of the pavilion and had seasonal campers helping themselves to our supplies.
Upon our check in, one of the members of our group asked if they could extend their stay. The management told them that they were full but if they had any cancellations they would gladly let them stay. The campground also told us that they would move the other campers so that we would not have to move. As the week progressed the campground did have a cancellation but refused to make adjustments to site allocations. After talking to the camper that came in on the site that was previously occupied, they told us that they had no site prefference. The campground also went as far as double charging for a site that became available a day early because of a family emergency. This was a site that was occupied by another camper from the group that we were with.
Also the campground lost power on Friday and never notified anyone in regards to any plans if the power was going to be out for any length of time. The campground never told new arriving campers that there was no power until after they paid for there sites and started setting up. With there being no power they also had no running water and no restroom facilities. The power was out over 19 hours and the owners made no attempt to assist any camper with a concern about safety. Within hours of the power failure, the restrooms were in deplorable condition and could not be used safely. Several people inquired about refunds as by Saturday morning there was still no power. Tenters that had small children were told they would not give any refunds and basically the owners could care less if anyone stayed.
