Complaint Review: KWIK KAR AUTO CENTER

My 65 year old mother took her car into Kwik Kar for a simple oil change and to check a small leak she thought she had. They did her oil change and proceed to tell her that she need over $800 worth of work done to her car. They said she had a water pump that was leaking and needed to be replaced. She needed to replace her thermostat, her oil pan gasket and her drive serpentine belt. They wanted to do the work right away.

She called me and I told her no, she had just had $400 worth of maintenance done on her car a week ago and I had a hard time believing she needed this done. I told her to take her car over to my mechanic immediately and he agreed to look at her car. He determined that she had a small transmission leak and she would not need to give it any attention right away. She took her service list with her and had him check everything on the list that Kwik Kar had given her and he found none of these things needed to be serviced. So be careful when you go to this Kwik Kar and ask for an oil change you might get more than you bargained for, or do they just prey on the elderly?
