12/4/07 I took my 1971 Ford Bronco to Kwik Kar in order to have them lengthen the 2 brake lines from my master cylinder to a distribution block that was mounted on the frame. This work needed to get done because of the new 2" body lift that I installed on the truck was stretching the existing brake lines more then I was comfortable with.

This is a simple request that included replacing 2 short brake lines, and then bleeding the brakes. I chose Kwik Kar because they were willing to look at it immediately.

When I got to the business at noon, I had a mechanic, who was referred to as a "Master Mechanic" look at the work that needed to be done. I was told by the manager that they could not quote a price, but I could count on the labor and parts being a small amount, because everyone agreed that this would be a simple job. They told me that they would be making the extended brake lines on site, so I would not have to wait for parts being ordered. I agreed to leave the truck there for the work to be done, confident that it was a simple job.

After work at 5:00pm, I returned to the business to chack on the progress of the vehicle to find the mechanic staring into the engine bay. The work appeared to be done. It was. The job looked nice, so I thanked him and went to pay for the service.

When I got in the the office, I was told that the mechanic had worked on this project non-stop until I arrived at 5:00pm. The mechanic had struggled with the "frozen" ends of the brake lines where they had connected to the distribution block. He also had to clean all of the rust out of the distribution block so that it wouldn't interfere with the braking system. It is important to note that my brakes worked great before I brought the vehicle into have the lines extended.

After all of this explanation, the manager hands me the bill for $341 to cover that parts and labor. I explained to him that the price was high for simply replacing 2 short brake lines, but he insisted that it was fair. I told him that $341 would cover the cost of rebuilding my motor and he strangely mentioned that the carberator on my motor costs around $600 alone. I began to worry about my truck getting parted out if I where to choose to fight with him over the bill, so I paid it and drove my truck home.

I won't ever do business with this company again. I hope that others who see this will think twice before having them do any work on their vehicles.

Kwik Kar on Brown Blvd employs only the best and brightest in the mechanical industry. They are absolutely capable individuals with the knowledge to perform almost any mechanical task. And a Master Mechanic is the highest level of mechanic certified by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) organization which is the leading educator and certifier of the field. Had your vehicle been a simple problem, you would have been charged for a simple task. Kwik Kar is not in business to rip anyone off, which is obvious by it's long standing in the North Arlington community. As you did not perform the task yourself, I would assume it was above your knowledge base on the vehicle. Each and every reason you stated as to why the charge was higher than you expected is legitimate and completely reasonable. You would have only been charged for the actual time it took to complete and perform the task at the current labor rate. The only real complaint is not in the quality of service, but rather you feel as though the service was an unreasonable price. If you had contacted Kwik Kar directly after the service and spoken with the owner, he would have made every attempt to make both parties happy. Now that it is several months later, nothing can be done.
