L.A. Transport was hired to transport a gas turbine power generator from SF,Ca. to Samford Ct... They agreeded to transport the shipment for $4000.00 & deliver in 4 days with team drivers. On the forth day they didn't show & their driver would't tell us where or why he wasn't at the delivery point.

We were told by this driver we would have to talk to his dispatcher, his dispatcher said he didn't know why the driver hasn't delivered but he would call him. They played this out for 2 days beyond the due delivery date, which was then developing into a major crisis. This turbine belonging to my customer General Electric, was to be installed at a power station where the was a crew waiting to unload & install.

The trucker new the urgency & used that situation to coerce my company to pay him the ransom amount of $10,375.00 before they delivered.

We have since discovered that they have a history of this same operation with other victims.

Bob,

This is my area of expertise, and I can tell you how to fix it, get your money back AND put the jerk in jail for a long time.

This is as long as you had a written contract. Please tell me you had a signed written contract.

1). File a complaint against the operational authority of the carrier. This act is flat out illegal and can get your authority revoked by the FMCSA. Go to the FMCSA website and get all the info you need. At very least, your complaint will be available for all to see.

2). What they did is the definition of EXTORTION. This is a FELONY in the classification of FINANCIAL CRIMES. Major prison time here and the conviction is almost guaranteed if you have documentation. You need to file a complaint with the FBI.

3). If a broker was involved, you can file against the bond for your losses, and he/she is out of business, as another bond would be impossible to get.

4). You can file aginst the carriers cargo insurance if you had a firm deadline that was missed that cost you crane time, etc.. They won't pay, but will document your claim and put that carrier under review and may re-rate premiums and deductibles, etc..

5). A small claims case is a slam dunk if you have a contract. Max award in small claims last I knew was $5,000.
