First of all, LA Carpet has many locations around Southern California.  LA Carpet is the parent corp. of Universal Flooring, a DBA.  There are several Universal Flooring locations.

We bought Shaw carpeting from this firm.  The carpet literally had bald spots within one year.  The carpet was so shoddy our vacuum cleaner literally pulled the yarn out of the backing (standard Hoover upright vacuum for houses).  Carpet was warrantied for 12 years against wear and 12 months for just about everything that could happen to a carpet.  Both Shaw Carpet and LA Carpet refused to honor the warranty.  We had to file a Small Claims Court action.

After we filed the Small Claims action, Shaw Carpeting refunded our money back to LA Carpet.  LA Carpet refused to give us our money back or give us any other carpet.  Basically, we were told to go pound sand.

LA Carpet made us take them all the way to court.  They refused all offers to settle by buying different carpet and us putting in more money for the other carpet. The Judge agreed in his ruling:  LA Carpet sold carpeting that was not "fit for warranty of merchantability".  Legal term meaning we were sold shoddy and inferior goods.

It is my opinion that you DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.  You will be sorry!!!

Also, go look them up on the Better Business Bureau site.  They don't belong to BBB.  When I checked around, I found 48 complaints against them.  All unresolved.  All for doing the same thing they did to us.  Universal Flooring, although a new DBA of only 1 year, already has a bunch of BBB complaints listed too.

What it appears that LA Carpet is doing is ripping consumers off until the word gets out.  Then they change locations and put up a Universal Flooring sign.

After the judge ordered them to return our money, LA Carpet finally did.

Was the struggle worth it?  No!  These people will waste a great deal of your time.  We easily spent $10,000 worth of time and effort to collect our $5,000 back.  That is their strategy:  They make it so hard for you to sue them that most people just give up.

Don't fall for this scam by not dealing with these people.
