Complaint Review: LA Fitness

I joined LA Fitness in Bradenton, Florida and signed up for 3 times per week training sessions. I ended up moving after a few months. So it took me 45 minutes to drive there per workout which was just too far. There is an Anytime Fitness right across the street from where I moved to so I didnt want to keep paying the more than $700 a month at LA Fitness for training. I asked the front desk if I could stop the training sessions and she said "no, you can't, you have another 6 months of training left". I said that i wasnt told it was a yearly contract and I couldnt stop it at anytime. They said in order to stop it I would have to pay $1300. They do not tell you when you sign up that you can't cancel it and if you try to they will stick you for thousands of dollars to buy it out. It is a total scam of a company. Stay away from LA Fitness at all costs. They will not let you out of your membership and do not ever buy training sessions there. The entire model is old and dated and should be month to month. Read the fine print and you will see that it is not what the salesman is selling you. They hold you hostage and won't let you leave.
