LA Fitness ripoff even when you resign and stop your membership in writing they claim that it was not received, we cancelled 5 menberships some were cancelled and others keep on being charged Ft Lauderdale Florida

LA Fitness has mastered the ability to continued billing, we sent in five forms, one for each cancellation notice, three were cancelled, one continued and one put on "hold" at a $10 per month rate. When contacting them by phone at the California head quarters they claimed they never received the request and did I have a postal receipt? If they never received it than why did they process the cancellation of three of the five requests and additionally why was one left to continue at full price and another at the hold price? They then said that I would need to talk with the Ft Lauderdale location and to my suprise was told they could do nothing about it and that they had no authority or ability to anything and that I needed to deal with customer service.

Upon requesting to deal with customer service in California while I was at the store I was told that it was not a toll free number and that they could not place long distance calls! Out comes my cell phone, called California long distance and was on hold for over 30 minutes. They finally cancelled the last two memberships but would not credit the previous months of charging. In contacting American Express to file a complaint it was confirmed that LA Fitness is a regular complaint and that they would putr a hold on my charge from LA Fitness.

Today I get mail from American Express that LA Fitness denied the request for a refund because I never notified them in writing of the cancellation! These guys are pros at RIPPING YOU OFF! Go some where else or bewqare that you are entering the Hotel California of Health Clubs....you can join but never leave!

Cancellation procedure

As a long-time member of LA Fitness in the fine town of Pony, Alabama, I can tell you that your contract clearly states that you must send your cancellation request to the corporate office IN WRITING via certified mail!! It also specifically states to NOT request cancellation by telephone, fax, email, or verbally at your club location. It is spelled out clear as day. Your choice to not follow the cancellation procedure as delineated in your contract does NOT constitute a rip off on the part of the club.
