Welcome to little Appalachia, where the locals stab you in the back, lie to your face, and take care of their "own" - outsiders are not welcome here.
The northern most part of the Adirondacks where Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, and Saranac Lake sit are places you do not want to live. And you certainly would be wise to avoid entertaining the idea of moving here (if you are not a local Adirondacker).
This is a small community with small-minded people. They take care of their own and make certain to pummel you, the outsider, to the ground.
Many people are tricked into coming up to the Adirondacks, Lake Placid, for a job from the big cities, only to find out the hard way ... that they will eventually lose their job, become penniless, and have to dig their way out of the area - to 'escape' the Adirondacks.
Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, and Saranac Lake are akin to a mixture of "meet the Waltons" and the movie "Deliverance."
Stay away from this area. Outsiders are not welcome here. Don't be fooled into moving up into the North Country - Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake.
