We bought two brand new vehicles from Larry Miller Toyota on Bell Road in Glendale/Peoria, Arizona. Deposit was paid and papers signed and everything seemed OK. Two weekslater we get a bill for the license tags. I called in and saw the salesman who had told me the tags were taken care of when we had signed up. I said why have you sent a bill and he replied well that was only an estimate so you still owe. I said you are in the car sales business you should know how much the tags are, you don't need to estimate. He walked off and refused to speak to me. We had to pay. Sneaky practice!!

What the Department of Justice has to say about a DEALER DOC FEE.

Department of Justice

Department of Justice (DOJ) administrative rule OAR 137-020-0020, the Motor Vehicle Price Disclosure Rule, presently authorizes a maximum administrative fee for motor vehicle transactions of $35 for preparing any and all paperwork to close the sale or lease of a motor vehicle except as prohited by ORS 802.030(2)

If a car dealer trys to get you to pay over $35 bucks to process the paperwork, they just might be breaking the law.

So it you are thinking of reading the advertised deception in your local newspaper, READ THE FINE PRINT FIRST!

Hello,

I am sure you were charged a "DOC FEE" . This is a common practice in the car biz. This doc fee is a made up number and is used to increase profit on every car sold. I have seen it as low as 49.00 and as high as 275.00. Imangine an extra 275 for every car sold. The escuse they use is for title processing fee. There is no justification for this in any way shape or form. It would be like the grocery store telling you the food is 1.99 plus and extra .36 for the lights, the stock boy, etc... So if you were chared a doc fee then have them show you where it cost them that amount to process your title since the state of AZ charges 4.00, and if the can not have them give you the diffence. Since it was an guess on thier part..... Fair is Fair tell them... Ps Any dealer worth his weight in gold wold have not asked you for the extra money, people like that give other dealers a bad name.....
