We contracted with David Lewis, to do a big remodel on our house. He did 80% of the work but took us for 8,000 dollars. Some of the materials we had to repurchase and finish what he didn't ourselves.  Also had to redo some of the work he had already done, due to him not doing it well or wrong.

While he was working on our remodel, we thought he was a good guy, so we referred him to our 80 year old mother-in- law. She needed a new roof and David had said he would replace her roof. Her having complete faith that he would do the job since we referred him, gave him the whole insurance check. He never replaced the roof and took her for about 7,700 dollars.

Not only was she out 7,700 dollars, she still needed a new roof. She ended up having to come up with an additional 4,500 of her own money to put into having her roof done.

We contracted with him also to do our heating and air conditioning. We gave him the money to give to Elmers Sheet Metal for the heating and air conditioning, which he led us to believe that he had taken care of. Elmer's had installed it. We contacted Elmer's and they informed us, David had never given the 6,000 dollars we gave him to use for that, so now we owe them. So he had taken the 6,000 from us as well and we have to come up with another 6,000 to pay Elmers.

We had to change our locks to our house, because not only did he take off with our money and not finishing the job, he never gave our house key back to us.

We are distraught. We put our money and faith into this guy when we shouldn't have. All together he has taken 14,000 dollars from us. The worst part is my mother-in-law is out a lot of money as well and wasn't going to have a new roof.

After some reseacrh, we have found he had lived in Denver and had given us a fake address from there. Also he indicated that he had lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado as well, and had a business called Grassroots Handyman Services. He then moved to Pueblo and changed his business to Last Call Handyman Services.

We are working with the DA's office on this matter, because we want justice. Who knows how many other people he has done this to. We also want people to be aware of him and these businesses. We don't want anyone else to have to go through this and be victomized.  If anybody as any info on him or has also been vitimized, please come forward. File a report or try to contact me. Anything helps.

David has recently ripped me off too. I hired him to do a project which he partially completed in October then disappeared for three weeks. He never made good on his two-year warranty, and has lied to me repeatedly. Just today, he was stringing me along telling me he was going to pay me back for what he couldn't finish. He never did. He has stood me up and failed to keep promises numerous times. He used the excuse that his daughter died in November, which I believed at the time. I later found out that he used this excuse in 2012 and 2013 with a landlord he defrauded. He owes me $1000 and has been stringing me along now for 3 months over it. I beieve this guy to be a con artist and a pathological liar, and I will be pursuing this in court. Fortunately, he did do a large part of the work I hired him to do, but it did not fix the problem he told me it would fix, which is water leaking into the cellar.

I have unfortunately had a bad experience with David not completing a project and not following through with me to get it done. This ended up costing me time and money. He claimed he had a personal family emergency come up  which caused him to completely disappear for several weeks without giving any notice. When he returned, he seemed to string me along with promises of completing the project and repaying me money owed. He never did either, though he kept promising. It was very difficult to communicate with him. He would call me once. If I didn't answer and called him right back, he would not return my calls for a week or two. Very frustrating. At this point, I'm ready to take him to court. I didn't lose anywhere near as much as you, so I consider myself lucky. I'm glad to find out about his character before I did more work with him. We were talking about doing some fix and flips together. It's so disappointing that he turned out to be like this. He seems like a very likable guy. He is intelligent and educated, moreso than many contractors I've dealt with.
