My wife and I have been married now for only six months, and for half of the time we've been married, we have been dealing with this mold issue in our appartment. We went away one weekend and when we came back home, we opened our closet and saw green fuzz all over our clothes and other things we had in the closet. When appoaching our onsite manager, Jonathan, he was very sympathetic and honest with us from the beginning. None of this is directed towards him, it is all directed towards the management company. I then talked to the maintanance guy and he video taped closet and said that it was coming from the attack. When he proceeded to the attack, he said that he has never seen so much mold and said that it had to have been there from before we moved in, which leads me to believe our previous manager, Gale, did not do a good job keeping up on the important things of the building up keep. So for last month, I told the company to put a stop on my rent check, and that I wasn't going to pay rent until they fixed the problem. I normally wouldn't do something this drastic, but now that I have a wife, I am afraid that this could be very harmful to the both of us. Now that this month's rent is do, I wasn't going to pay it, but I decided, no, I will just pay this months and not worry about last month until they take some action on this issue, now they will not even take this month's rent until I pay both months at the same time!!! I am not going to do that at all, this is not my fault that they have been slacking on this buildings up keep. If there is anyone out there that can give me some advice, or let me know if we have a case here, please don't hesitate in giving me a call or better, emailing me. Thank you all for taking the time to listen to me ramble.

Mold in the closet

#2Consumer Suggestion

I would suggest calling the Health Department. Mold can cause serious health issues and certian kinds are toxic. You need to make sure you and your wife are protected. Take photos of the mold (lots of photos) and take them to court if they try to evict you for non-payment of rent. Document your conversations about the problem so that you will have a record of how long this has been going on. Also, get a written statement from the maintenance guy that this likely has been a problem since befor you moved in.
