We were going to move to West Virginia from Florida. I went on to several apartment web sites and found Laurel Commons Town homes. The price was good. I checked surrounding areas and the prices there were about the same for apartments. The buildings looked nice nothing out of the ordinary. It stated that there was new siding, new windows, newly renovated interiors, renovations to wow you. They were also advertising a $50 move in special with a coupon. The area looked clean from the pictures they took. We did the application via fax and was approved. We drove 908 miles and I wanted to cry when pulling up to the town homes. The neighborhood was run down. The apartment community was terrible looking. Very unclean, looked like the worst section 8 you could find. Very poverty stricken. I told my husband lets at least look at it maybe it won't be so bad inside. We had just driven 900 miles after all and I was in denial. We walked up to where we were supposed to live and the windows were broke, not even close to new.

There was snow inside. It snowed a couple days earlier. There was no a.c. and found out no heat either. Half the buildings had the siding torn off. The inside was very tiny. It was supposed to be 1100sq' but was at most 700sq' with 3 bedrooms. We talked to the manager when she got back from lunch in which she yelled at us because she did not want to be back yet. She said that our building looked fine so why were we complaining. She had no comment about the broken window. When we complained about the heat and a.c. she and the owner later on said that we were spoiled in Florida. If we wanted that, we had to buy a window unit. I am from New York originally and it gets just as hot there as it does in Florida. The $50 move in special turned into $250. Needless to say we were only there for 30 minutes and had to drive back to Florida with a loaded Penske truck, my husbands truck and a dog. We had to find a apartment here immediately which we did within a few days gratefully. On the way back we spoke to the owner and he refused to refund us any money for our move for false advertising. We tried to work it out with him but he refuses and does not return any phone calls. We need some advice and help.
