Laurie Henkel Laurie Henkel tried to scam me on Craigslist by pretending to be an interested buyer London, Internet
I listed boots for sale on eBay and Craigslist in New York and this "Laurie Henkel" person pretended to be interested in purchasing via CL and not eBay. At first it seemed better due to the lack of fees on CL, but he or she seemed too interested. Plus, the e-mails sound oddly foreign in tone and "Laurie" claimed to live in Ohio...another red flag as this was posted locally on CL New York. My suspicion led me to google the name and I found that this person is pulling an offshore money-wiring scam.
DO NOT get involved with Laurie Henkel. It's amazing to think someone can scam you by buying something you're selling! Scammers and thieves are very creative.
Things to be wary of: bad grammar and/or spelling in their postings or responses
people from far away checking a local ad
anyone whose too enthusiastic about an item
anyone who asks you to wire money anywhere
buyers or renters located overseas who can't meet in person
