My husband and I became involved with this law office when we financed a tv and stop paying on it because my husband lost his job and times became really hard. We have recieved many calls from the law office. It has been transfered to representative to representative. So far we have given them 800 dollars and we owe them 1400 more. It is really hard to give them money when they dont want to recieve monthly payments. We want to pay them off so they can leave us alone. I am literraly scared and terrified to call them because they are so rude and dont have the money to give the whole lump sum. Right now it is really hard to to pay our bills because I am the only one working.

I am really scared to call them cause everytime I am calling them they always threaten me to take me to court. If you can provide me with any assistance please send me a responce as soon as possible. It will really ease my nerves. I can pay them off but just going totake some time but I am sure I can pay them.

I don't have any letters from LOCOB, and cannot figure out how to get a "live voice" to stay on the phone long enough to let me say "please stop calling." As soon as I say "I don't know the person you are calling, the person also does not reside here, please..." Of course if I don't know the person, they don't live in my residence (is this too difficult to comprehend?) I was once screamed at (no joke!) when I tried to get in, "I don't know this person... " and immediately put on automated voicemail. The next time, I was hung up on.

Finally, this evening, I did call back, immediately after receiving an automated message for Joshua ... ?? and the message said they were closed??  but, I could leave a message and reluctantly decided to do so. New problem: I followed the voicemail instructions to leave voicemail and guess what! As soon as those magical words of "do not call here" are started, the voicemail is done! I tried several times, and bam, voicemail is over. Amazing.

How do the rest of the people here speak to anyone?

How do I fax them? I don't know their fax #. I can't get a live person on the phone long enough to listen to me. And are these people rude... beyond words.

I have some concern in writing to this place at the listed USPS address on here because LOCOB obviously don't know me (they are calling the wrong number), I have no debts, and the last thing I need is this place writing to me (USPS) and possibly hurting my credit.

I am exasperated and just want them to stop calling me from early morning til late at night.

HELP!!!

Having the same trouble.

I am also having the same trouble as the others. I have offered what I can on the debt, but the LOCOB says they will move forward since I am "refusing to make acceptable payments". I followed your advise and they have already cashed the check I sent them, and they sent me a letter today stating that they are moving me to the litigation dept. The letter says that they conducted an investigation and found they I am able to pay but refusing.

They have already cashed my check for what I can afford, and I told them I am going to send them a check of what I can afford each month, but the letter they have recommends I seek legal assistance. I this another scare tactic? I'm not able to pay this amount, and I don't have much to pay a lawyer. I am hoping our Former Employer Friend has some insight into this latest letter.

I am gald to see that my assistance is helping others too. You should be conserned about them calling your work, relatives, neighbors, previous employers, previous neighbors ext... We were tought to call everybody who had the same last name as you in your current location and any other locations if the returned amount of names were small enough to make it worth your while. They have a skipping tool called Accurint that gives them all your previous address, numbers, a list of possible relatives, known associates, if you own property / businesses, ect... so do not be caught off guard if they know a lot about you.

If you want them to stop call you at a certin number this what you do is take the fax number off the letter I am sure that you have ( if you do not, them call and get the fax # from them ) and fax them a letter that says "Please cease and desist contact with me at .................... " ( fill in the number or if it is your place of employement then put the company name ) What this is, is a legal request to not call you at work. It is outlined in the FDCPA as to what you need to do to make them stop calling you.

Make sure when you send it, you put the time stamp on it. If they call after you do this then they have violated the FDCPA and you should look into your rights to take action ( *** this is not legal advice, just a suggestion *** )

Anything else I can do, please let me know.

I have been contacted by this law firm as well. I filed my report under just Curtis O. Barnes, PC, so I'm not sure it will show up with this thread when searched using the site. I feel for you and your husband, Good luck with your current situation. To the "ex-employee" who has been responding - thanks so much for replying to this woman. You have helped me too. I have never been treated the way these men treated me today and my husband was infuriated (I am nine and a half months pregnant). He called them and was treated the same way and was told to hit his family up for the money as well. We plan to send them a reasonable amount every month until the debt is paid, and if they call my employer and get me fired, well.... will they really do this? Because I really could lose my job over it. Thanks

I see that they are still reading off of the script that they were given and taught, in great detail, by Curtis himself called the DUNN. What I will do is copy your post below and translate it into what it means...

When we dont send the money they ask they usually will say that they are going to give the report to the lawyers and they are going to move foward....

This is to scare you into making a payment or a larger payment, and by forwarding it to an attorney, they mean either their supervisor, another represenative to do what is called a second voice ( this is used to sound like the second person has more athority then the previous represenative, when in actuallity they are sitting right next to that represenative and doing one for them most likely )

Meaning they are going to send us to court....

They cannot send you to court because NOBODY in LOCOB is licenced to practive law in any other state then Ohio and California.

I had one girl that said that I can keep sending money but that will not stop us from moving foward because I could not send alot of money....

This is the first rebuttal that you are taught in your DUNN training, you are saying something that sounds like a lot when in acutally you are not saying anything. It is ment to sound like if you mail in something other then what they say is acceptable that it will not do anything, ( see above posts about this fact ) What happens when you hang up is they have to "go dark" or not call you for 3 days and your account is placed in a HOT status because you are a prime account for a second voice. What will most likely happen is someone will call you and say that they were send your account by the prevoius represenative as a "refusal to pay". You will say that you did not refuse to pay, you were just unable to make the arrangements that they said you had to make, the represnative will then say that you are refusing to make "acceptable" arrangements, and per the clients requirement you are refusing to pay. All of this is to make you think that they are going to send you to court if you do not make the arrangements that they are requesting.

Here is a hint, when they say that they are going to send you to court and you are not in Ohio, or California one of three things happens,

1. They keep your account in Hot and await your mail in payments.

2. They refer your account to their supervisor to have it closed ( which never happens because they want you to mail in your payments so they can get your money ) so they move your account to the ppa desk ( see above )

3. Your account it moved to the LEG Unit ( this is for accounts that are over 90 days old and do not have secured payments on them via check by phone ) where it sits and awaits your mail in payments.

And here is a last little bit of information, In South Carolina where you live, a civil judgement can be obtained but nothing can be done about it becasue your state does not allow wage or bank garnishment, or liens on your property. You might want to double check with an attorney about this but this was the info that were given as represenatives in our legal talk off.

I know that you are taking my word for a lot of this, and I thank you, becuase I used to do this for over two years and I did feel bad for the majority of people that I talked to. I hope this helps.

P.S. The next time that they threaten you with Legal Action, tell them that it is an FDCPA Violation because you can only threaten legal action if you have the intent on actual carring it out, and in SC you cannot because there are not any post judgement remedies available. Again, I am giving you the info that was given to me as an employee, this does not constitute that I am an attorney or claming to be one. I suggest that you consult an attorney of they keep threating you with legal action for your protection.

One More Question

Thank You So Much for your help. Ypu are really helping us with this company. But I have one more question. When we dont send the money they ask they usually will say that they are going to give the report to the lawyers and they are going to move foward. Meaning they are going to send us to court. What do this mean? I had one girl that said that I can keep sending money but that will not stop us from moving foward because I could not send alot of money. What do this mean? I do not want them to send them some money and they still going to take us to court.

I am glad to hear that my info gave you a better piece of mind. When they say that "They will not accept a payment that low" what they are doing is trying to get you to feel obligated to pay more then you may have. What you do is just what I said in the previous information that I gave. Mail then what you can, when you can, just try and make it at least every month. What this will do is move your account to the "PPA Desk", which is a fancy word for a representative that is over all the accounts that cannot make the balance or payments over $200.00 a month. A regular representative may have between 250 - 350 accounts, where as the PPA representative has over 2,000 so they are working on the numbers game. When you call them and offer money that is less work for them to have to do.

If they refuse your offer you thank them and hang up. But make sure you keep making some type of consistent monthly payment. It is important to make at least the same amount every month. After a few more months call back and try it again. If you really want to have some negotiation power call on the last day of the month and try to make the arrangements. They will tell you that they are not based on how much they collect but they are, and the more they collect the more commission they make.

So hold your ground and if you need any further info, just ask.

I am a former employee of LOCOB. I am sorry to hear that they are still doing this to people. They are lying when they say that they cannot accept monthly payments. What you do is mail the payment to them at their Anaheim office, address below.

LOCOB
390 W. Cerritos Ave.
Anaheim, CA 92805

I assure you it will be cashed and after you make a few in a row call them and they will USUALLY be more apt to talk to you since you will no longer be with a "front line collector" and you will be swept to the PPA desk.

I hope this was helpful, if you need any further info, please respond to this and if I have an answer I will asist you.
