I purchased a new 2008 Ford Fusion at Lawrence Marshall Ford in Hempstead. My son was comming home from the Navy and needed the car to drive to Las Vegas to meet with the family of a Navy Service Man who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. I purchased the car in anticipation of my Son's return and travel planes. A couple of weeks later my son was in Las Vegas and he was concerned that the temporary tags would expire, leaving him unable to return home legally. He and I were both assured by Dax Edwards at Lawrence Marshall that the tags would be overnighted to my Son's hotel. When the tags did not show up in time, we began calling. Dax Edwards said that the tags had been sent by DHL. My son waited another day, spending money for a hotel room that he did not have. We called againg the next day and again were assured that the tags had been sent and would arrive shortly. Another night in the hotel passed. I called the next day and Dax told me that the permanant tags had come in and they decided not to overnight the the temporary tag as promised and confirmed daily. Instead, they mailed the permanant tags to my house. He informed me that if I wanted, I could overnight them to him when they arrived via snail mail. (No s**t, Dax?) So now my Son, who has just completed 5 years on a Nuclear Sub is stranded in Vegs sitting in a Roach motel, out of money and may have to drive home with expired temp plates. If Dax had been truthful from the start, he could have saved the money that it cost to live in Vegas 3 extra days. This is a failure on the part of the sales rep to follow thu and be truthfull. If he will do it to my son, what will he do to yours?

There are different ways that you, as a concerned parent could have done to make your situation alot easier.

1. Go to the dealer yourself, and get the temp tag sent DHL yourself, instead of relying on someone else to do it for you. Or would that have been to much trouble for you to do for your son?

2. The fine charged for driving with an expired dealer tag is $80.00-$85.00, and the chances of getting a ticket for that is slim to none. A police officer realizes that it is pretty much out of your power to get your plates since it is the dealers job to get them for you. Now, dont you think that $85.00 is alot cheaper than staying in Vegas for an extended period of time.

I have a real problem with adults blaming other people for mistakes they make on their own, using poor judgement. Anyone over 18 has the leagal right to do anything within the law. Don't you think that you should also be responsible for your own mistakes instead of blaming them on everyone else? Lawrence Marshall in Hempstead has been in business since the 60's. Its one of the most customer service driven dealers, I have ever done business with. It also sells 500-800 cars per month at their Hempstead location. If they were truely such bad people to do business with, don't you think there would be alot more ripoff reports listed here, rather than just yours?

I hope that in the future you, and anyone else who reads this, will take responsibility for your own issues, and find more responsible ways to deal with personal problems instead of passing the buck.
